Like text.npr.org - there is also a CNN "lite" version too: https://lite.cnn.com/

I agree whole heartedly I wish more of the web were like this.

I'm guessing one of the victims of this predatory behavior will respond with a gas can and a match. There are multiple ways to express discontent to this type of behavior, and it's statistically likely one of those ways will be arson.

This type of vigilante justice isn't good for a society, but it does tend to discourage the behavior. Similar to how markets where some thieves have a stump in place of a hand don't have a shoplifting problem(any more).

tldr; someone will likely make the developer suffer as a result of the suffering they are inflicting on others to feed their greed.

If you aren't familiar with tmux(or GNU screen), you owe it to yourself to become familiar. If you are a deveoper/sysop/cli-type it will act as a force multiplier. It takes 10 minutes to get setup and learn the basic hotkeys - and you will save many orders of magnitude of your time. One of the best learn-some-software investments you can make IMHO.

PS: This applies to /alot/ of software though...not just tmux. See: vim, emacs, bash, zsh.... the difference between a new or non-learned user is /vast/ compared to someone that spends 10 minutes and learns the basic of these tools. This is one of your first steps into greybeard mastery.

This is advertising for a book. This individual has zero accomplishments or credentials to lend any gravity to their opinions. Everyone has opinions.

I can't possibly agree loudly enough with this recommendation. I started with Hal Leonard method classical guitar books(1 & 2) and that was one thing...great books, but nothing compared to Absolutely Understand Guitar. That guy teaches and explains music theory in a way so effective it's not even comparable to other systems. Fantastic teacher, fantastic material, nothing but praise for Scotty West's music program.

I'm not sure what you are talking about wrt guitar and standard notation. Finger (PIMA) indication, staccato/legato, vibrato, tremolo, slurs, hammer, pulls, etc...it's all there. I don't see as much notation around hammer/pull as a classical player, but pick up a classical guitar music book sometime...you'll find that everything (guitar-related) you mentioned needing to be included, is already included.

> How do we do that in tech? Hell if I know, maybe a proctored written exam, followed by an oral exam, then a project? But who knows.

Ever taken a Redhat exam - such as Red Hat Certified Engineer? That's the right model. It's a hand-on exam with arbitrary exam objectives you have to meet (by any means possible, there is more than one right way to achieve desired state). There is no internet, devices, or anything else to help you. People that pass allow you to make assumptions about them - for example... without stackoverflow, github, or the internet at all - this person can configure virtual hosts with nginx, firewall rules, host VMs, and administer network concepts(virtual switches, routing) between them. To do that without any GUI or internet available - it means you understand those concepts very well, and can implement them blindfolded.

Any RHCEs want to chime in?

This appears to me like a solution in search of a problem, like many others before it...the quote below seems relevant to this effort.

> Most of the time the GUI experience is the same or better than terminal tools

I started to take your comment seriously until that line. You're avoiding leveling up and learning how to use the CLI. Whatever reason you are avoiding it for, understand that's what is at play here.

People actively do that at work. My employer is a large [US] government financial entity, that likely holds your mortgage and the mortgage of people you know. Our profit this last quarter was publicly reported as 3.6 billion dollars. Most people will respond to any question with an OpenAI-generated answer, and you'll notice it most when 3 or 4 people in a teams chat all reply with a near-identical answer to a question you ask in the channel. I can't overstate how much AI is used here, or how zealous the leadership is in pushing us to use it for...everything.

Just wanted to point out that people are doing it at work, not getting fired, and this isn't some 2-bit business you haven't heard about.

Welcome to the world of commodity trading. There is no SEC here, and this is business as usual. You can look at T&S to see this for yourself, but this is (like it or not) how this typically goes in commodity markets.

If staring at walls doesn't do it - try playing guitar instead. Works for me and it's more fun than a wall IMHO.

Whether it's run as root/administrator or not - you can disable this behavior by setting the immutable flag on /etc/hosts. No user, including root, can write to a file with the immutable flag set(although root could _remove_ the attribute and then write).
