The novelty of the turing test has worn off, and some of us are trying to get work done without being forced to parse the drivel produced by some AI.

A DGX spark is cheaper than a mac mini m5 with half the memory, half the disk, and no cuda, and no Linux. Why not indeed!

A Mac Mini with M5 Pro, half the memory of a DGX Spark, half the disk of DGX Spark, and no CUDA, is already more expensive than a spark. The Spark runs Linux natively, has a tiny form factor, and is usable as a general purpose computer.

I use a DGX Spark with NixOS on it as my daily driver and it's fantastic.

Amazfit required a one time registration to get a one time code to unlock things, but I used a throwaway email id, and then deleted their app immediately. After that point the watch only syncs with gadgetbridge. The best part is that the watch has no internet capabilities, and gadgetbridge itself doesn't have internet permissions either so you know that absolutely no data can leave your device

If you care about privacy and owning your own data, then don't buy this, buy a watch with gadgetbridge support (https://gadgetbridge.org/gadgets/). I bought an amazfit active 2 a few years ago and it works fantastically with gadgetbridge on grapheneos. Easily gives me 5 days of continuous battery life as well.

Right, my rant was more about the options for syncing. The reading and writing experience is fine otherwise (if a tad slow).

I second the recommendation to use reManager!

I bought a Remarkable 2 tablet a while back. I quickly realised two things -

1. Remarkable's own software is a steaming pile of poo. Their inbuilt web server for uploading files is extremely buggy and unusable. It's dog slow. You can't try to drag many files in one go, or it crashes. You can't try to upload a large file, or it crashes. There is also a hard limit on the file size you can upload (something like 100MB) which makes it unusable for some heavy PDF files I have. They push you towards paying for their cloud service subscription, which I will never do, just to be able to sync files. There is also no way to just ssh files over because their pdf reader will refuse to read them. All I want is to connect the remarkable every day for a few minutes to my computer and have it sync my files, and there is no way to do that.

2. Most of the "hacks" online are written assuming that you can install toolchains like Toltec on the device, and they are NOT updated for the newer firmware. My remarkable came with 3.15 and while there are some instructions on how to downgrade the firmware before installing the toolchain, they never worked for me. So I stuck with the subpar software and reading experience...

... until I discovered [ReManager](https://github.com/rmitchellscott/reManager). It just worked out of the box, did not require a firmware update, and I was able to install KoReader and other goodies (such as some launcher improvements). It can also transfer large files easily. What's ironic is that KoReader can read djvu files, which removes my need to use large PDFs in the first place. Equivalent djvu files are much much smaller.

Thanks to everyone in the remarkable community who contributed to ReManager and other assorted remarkable hacking!

EDIT: Also must point out a cool thing that I discovered recently - ReManager comes with a one click installer for the Zig toolchain on the Remarkable 2! It is slow, but I was able to compile and run zig programs on the tablet.

We only recently started moving the Functional Programming India community from Telegram to Zulip. That decision is looking better and better!

Yes it is. It's not trying to be new money, it's your money that already works.

Difficulty is most certainly not the point. Abstraction, composability, yes, but difficulty is a language smell that CAN be fixed. (I love Haskell and it's my primary langauge, so this comes from a place of love).

Look at my statement in context of Mojo. Why would someone use this language if all they want is to "get an idea down quickly"? They would just use Python instead

That it is

Really the only thing good about Python is its ecosystem.

They do if you want to collaborate with others. No one is going to want to create accounts on your personal instance
