The idea that people apply for positions and, if they are qualified, they are accepted. At least in theory.

Passkeys are great for developers who are into cryptography and security, and who understand the idea and implementation behind it. For the rest of us it's something to avoid.

I don't use passkeys anywhere for fear of losing access. I just don't care enough to study how it really works. With passwords, I occasionally print out all my important passwords and store them in a safe and I know there's no way I could lose access.

I don't know much about passkeys, I have never implemented them. I once tried to find out more about them but all I could see is "you're going to regret using this one day".

I absolutely love neoclassical architecture.

I wish more people were building brand new, modern neoclassical buildings that are truly beautiful in a Haussmannian way, yet as practical as modern skyscrapers.. something like 1 Mayfair in London or 150 East 78th Street in New York.

Why Apple doesn't say "I'm sorry but your photos aren't accessible because they are being sorted and indexed at the moment"?

I didn't know in advance why Siri can't access my photos (turns out it's because indexing isn't done) - at the beginning I thought there was some sort of other problem. Later I figured out (after going through privacy/permissions stuff) that it's too stupid to know why it can't see my photos.

Amateurish.

Siri AI feels like a beta version (I think it officially is?). It’s unaware indexing isn’t done yet so it just tells me “I can’t find any photos of Italy” although there’s many thousands. Then it tells me how to let it access my photos using nonexistent iOS settings, even though permissions aren’t the problem. Amateurish.

The Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (to which they are all signatories) effectively prevents these countries from acquiring nuclear weapons. Unless they are willing to face international sanctions and economic ruin, that’s the end of the story.

"raison du joure these days"

I had to laugh out loud too when I read this.

You probably will. It's similar to steam engine and mechanical power loom.

I wish other car makers were as reasonable as Honda here.

No "evil valet" with half a brain cell would waste time hacking the head unit if they have physical access to the car. They would simply hide a spying device somewhere in the car.

Not to mention that people with Civics are never targets of three letter agencies.

It seems that a lack of respect is the real issue here. A few years ago, you would have been met with silence, which is probably equally infuriating.

Agreed. It's been like that for years.

The shopping centre where I shop frequently (Europe) has a large outdoor parking space and every 20 meters or so there's a little kiosk where you can return the cart. People do because it's actually easier to return it than to worry about crashing into it when you're getting out of the parking spot. From time to time an employee goes out and collects all the carts from kiosks and gets them back to the shop. I don't know if it's the same way in the US, maybe some people don't return it simply because they parked too far from the entrance.

Or, better yet, asked people what they want: whether the phone should crash or slow down when the battery is choking.
