Oh wow, I looked it up. Employee's get to sell up to 10% on day 1. That's cool for them.

Employee shares usually get put in a 3-6 month lockdown so they don't get to participate in the bubbly robinhood excitement.

Ha! you can't try to enforce the definition of a new phrase, language evolves naturally. At least with "open source" there was the dubious claim that OSI had gotten their first and had trademarked it. But now you have nothing except wanting free things with no strings attached.

A 10M window would require dozens of GPUs (or TPUs) dedicated to each query. That is something that Google could afford internally but wouldn't be able to scale to an external product.

It's mostly corporations that are the most free to do as they please here.

Imagine performing literally trillions of matrix multiplications in order to figure out the answer to 1 + 2.

The law should require that if a company sells hardware that depends on an internet service, and later discontinues that service, it must open-source the communication protocol and provide a way to connect the hardware to alternative services. This requirement should cover every feature that was functional when the device was sold.

Fortunately Nest owners got lucky this time and there was an escape hatch that allowed projects like No Longer Evil. But there's a long list of devices that have been bricked when their manufacturers shut down a proprietary backend.

Our system consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.

That's why it was so important for the US to lead when it was the superpower that had the authority, respect and most influence over institutions of international cooperation. We're in the process of throwing all those accomplishments of the 20th century away. We used to be the good guys.

That has been the recent trend in California with several laws restricting local development power.

I understand Spanish being from Latin America but for a long time I couldn't understand a single thing he said because of the Spaniard accent and crazy laughter, and I enjoyed the memes just fine. But then few years ago I watched it with the real subtitles and something clicked in my brain so now when I watch it I mostly understand him fine. But now the memes are ruined because it's hard to hear and read two speeches at the same time. Just an annecdote about our weird brains.

The robots are going to be controlled by the same billionaires that make employees pee in bottles or fire hundreds on a whim over tweets.

Our labor power is going to be fully eroded and the robots will not be serving us.

Especially difficult to walkback since bribes are basically legal now because once an industry establishes itself it starts buying off politicians.
