Some people in Moscow call themselves the "3rd Rome", are they Rome?

An empire is an ideology which emanates from a seat of power. Byzantium != Rome. It's different in multiple ways.

People call themselves European all over European. It doesn't mean Spain = Portugal. It's a larp.

"Roman" should be defined.

"1480"is like calling the Iraq war a British Empire endeavour imo.

If it was so good, why do you have nothing to say about the content?

People have been paying a premium to companies like Apple for a reason. You've got nothing to worry about.

Decade of people's purchases has been invested into safety and security. It's absolutely unthinkable that a $7t market cap company with an army of 200k workers will ever leave people high and dry. They proudly went public, so we know they have the public's interests at heart.

A judge should be the ones handing out sentences, not landlords, recruiters, etc.

Anything requiring safeguarding should be based on a whitelist, not a blacklist, so anybody deemed not suitable to be around young/vulnerable people can be punished by having credentials taken away.

When your punishment is deemed over, that should be that, tbh.

Sad that Block Inc get to profit from frictionless signups, and outsource any costs of failings to innocent people in the form of jailtime.

Computer fraud, unlawful use of a communication device, and (identity) theft describe what Cash App helped facilitate rather than anything she did.

I wonder what happens if I start allowing people to send me personal information, auto-accept everything as the truth, and start sending their money around the world...

Great news for island nations and territories if this can scale. There’s something very sci-fi about islands powered by underwater volcanoes, and the jobs it could create would be fascinating. Going from pearl divers to subsea power-station drone technicians, ha.

I wonder what industries it could help thrive. afaik Iceland has a relatively big aluminium smelting industry due to its cheap, excess geothermal power. Could we see new opportunities spring up in places like Kerguelen, South Georgia or Tristan da Cunha? Modern takes on whaling stations?

The argument's comparative, though.

Most tofu eating countries absolutely loooooooooove pork. China's pork consumption puts the rest of the world in fun-fact tier.

Think Indonesia is the outlier given that pork is haram.

Bringing jobs and purpose closer to home as opposed to outsourcing labour abroad and donating a cut to international middlemen.

Also brings people 'closer' to the animals and makes it more likely that meat regains its ritualistic role in society, as opposed to being a consumer product. This should reduce consumption, boost appreciation, bring communities that little bit closer, etc.
