I personally think using AI is of no problem for certain cases. It is absolutely pissing off when someone tries to generate slops that too verbose to review only to increase the complexity of the codebase meaninglessly.

As a Starcraft fan, if you’ve not heard of yet, I highly recommend the Youtuber Kim Seong-Hyun (Alphago)

If this proof is actually valid, this could be a pretty shocking news to the entire academic fields. A software engineer who has never been trained as a professional mathematician, not even having his college degree in numerical field, with pure interest in math, now can solve problems that not even those Fields medalists cannot.

Now I feel like all the intellectual hierarchies and reward systems are broken. Who’s gonna waste his or her fucking time and money in degrees and papers when you just mess around Claude?

I believe a true engineer should love problems not only languages. But it seems like majority of Rust devs only love the language and try to convert all the problems into Rust problems.

If you have problems in C/C++? Write Rust.

If you have problems in Python? Use Rust.

If you have an issue with your product? Rewrite it in Rust.

Is your company in pinch? Launch a new product in Rust.

If you burn your finger while you’re cooking? Write Rust.

If you have a mental problem? Read a Rust book.

You don’t have a girl friend? You have Rust next to you.

If you hate yourself? Writing Rust will solve your life problems.

Would it be okay to suspect the recent upsurge in AI agent usage as a possible main cause of this issue?

Can’t agree more. If you take security seriously, you should consider using Go.

To me Rust is great where you don’t have to touch unsafe part. All the hard works are done by those skillful maintainers of the language and some core libraries such as tokio. I don’t see much value in it if either I have to work on the low-level stuff quickly (like implementing linked lists myself) or a complete high-level of i/o bound work like writing web servers.

Mate you managed to provoke with this comment. But you know what you’re saying right?

Seems like Cloudflare only writes Rust these days…

1. Hop around a few rust communities and fill yourself up with full love of rust and hatred against c/c++.

2. Ignore any technical tradeoffs and considerations but solely lean on your guts and hypes on the Internet.

3. Ask Claude to rewrite the entire codebase to rust. Boom! Now you’re allowed to show off yourself on LinkedIn and HW as a super great rust engineer.

It’s a bit weird to see every comment here talks about apps she or he has built but never really give a shit about this app itself.

> I'm hoping, though, that most of the Rust devs, who say they care about memory safety, genuinely care about making software safer, and not just criticizing languages that compete with Rust.

Well I feel most of the Rust devs are there for saying shits about other languages to prove their own dumbassness.

Rust feels like the just right language to produce all those slops of AI and the language itself. Great to promote yourself as a productive engineer, but at the end of the day you’re just reinforcing the statement that AI and the language itself are great, not you.
