How has that pain been alleviated by the current administration?

From the outside, it looks like the motivation of these voters was mainly to cause pain to perceived enemies. From my point of view, this is no longer just the effects of the two Santas strategy, this feels like it goes way beyond that.

Ninja-edit: Is it ok to discuss under deleted comments? If not just delete this.

> All the stats and models shows that white collar class will get poorer, EVERYBODY ELSE will get richer.

Would you mind sharing a source for that? I can't think of a mechanism that would make sure that the poor get richer.

Intuitively I would expect a continuation or acceleration of the current trend, i.e. concentration of wealth at the very top (billionaires).

Do saltwater aquariums fall under pets? Technically they're animals, but maybe they're not defined as such in your contract.

Just an idea if you want some kind of animal hobby :)

As a non-native speaker, you have to sound it out. It's a pun of "can't have your cake and eat it".

HN has been overrun with puns and attempts at humour in the past few years, while substantive comments have declined imho. But that's just the way it is.

Firefox mobile has extensions. I didn't get any ads because of ublock origin. No idea how people browse the web without adblockers. Not only because they are an assault on your attention, which is an important resource, but also because of the scams and security implications of ads.

>Amusingly, the 'histrionic' Reddit post linked to in the article smells very AI generated to me.

The whole text was a smorgasbord of the worst, most boring AI clichés possible. It was hard to finish for me, even though it is not that long, just because it was so badly written.

The only reason why I think it was partly written by a person who is just way too used to AI (as opposed to a simple prompt) is that the gaps in its logic feel more human than artificial.

If the current Reddit Enhancement Suite workaround for the horrible UI stops working, I'll just stop using it. Outside of small communities like small city subs and subs like /r/reeftanks or /r/fountainpenpals, it's been overrun with bots anyway.

I just hope that those communities find back to forums again after Reddit dies.

Works for me with Firefox on android and ublock origin.

>What does the German Green Party say in their own political platform today about the use of thermal power plants?

Doesn't matter, at least in Germany. Maybe it's different in other countries, though this would surprise me. Here, nobody reads the party platforms, as they do not correlate with the actions of our political parties.

If you vote according to party platform, then you should probably vote for the conservatives or the reds, as they pretend to be good for the economy and the workers.

I think it's better to judge a party by their actions, instead.

I recently wrote a reply to someone else with the same argument about the German greens, which I'll recycle here:

"It's bad enough that nuclear proponents ignore the massive cost of nuclear compared to renewables once you factor in building costs, insurance and storage imho. But then to pretend like the conservatives didn't have a choice but to bungle the nuclear exit really is too much.

The CDU never listened to the greens when it came to not killing the solar industry and serving it to China on a golden platter. Or not killing our rail infrastructure by continually delaying maintenance so that we would have to do much more costly repairs later.

But in this instance, they do, and do it in a way that is a gift to the energy companies, and instead of noticing the obvious corruption at play, people still blame the greens."

Sorry if the tone is a bit harsh, but I'm really annoyed at the amount of dishonesty surrounding nuclear energy.

Does he have a saltwater aquarium, or any other hobby that can make use of it? If not, I can highly recommend that he get into it, if he's into that kind of overkill :)

As we are supposed to strongman other commenters arguments here, I'd say they are not posting to produce a narrative, but rather that they have allowed themselves to believe that they are the "obviously right", and everyone who believes otherwise is driven to do so by ideology instead of logic.

By painting the opposition to nuclear energy as emotionally driven, they can assure themselves that their position is rational, and this allows them to subconsciously ignore the evidence against it.

Why does this obvious falsehood get repeated so much on hn Everyone can look up what the CDU did, it's not like they did it in secret.

Why do so many otherwise seemingly rational people pretend that nuclear is the answer to our energy needs? It doesn't make sense economically, it's just wishful thinking.

The only cheap nuclear energy is from plants that have already been built, because it won't help if we tear them down. But as soon as you factor in the costs of building, insurance and storage of materials, it's always more expensive than renewables.

And while the cost of renewables is still trending downwards, the cost of new reactors is rising, even in China.
