Meh, I just read it as an anti-joke. I think you guys are getting worked up over nothing.

I remember going through that stage with my kids. To keep myself stimulated I'd add an extra bit here, a funny voice there, kept what worked and kept building and building on top of the actual text in the books. It was like a performance after a while, and of course, my poor wife would never do it "right" when she read it.

This thread is a good example of why the policy requiring that a post title must match the article title doesn't always work.

The title is okay within the context of the site it's on, but it's completely nonsensical on its own without that context.

I wonder what the implications of a direct brain-to-computer interface, and through that, the internet, are if this interface is left on while you sleep. Would your unconscious mind wander out into the internet? What would it do there?

I'm against capital punishment, but I'm glad that at least the state has higher standards than murderers when it comes to killing people.

I'm on Windows 7 and use a Linux VM, where I actually do all the development. I love the command line, but still haven't found a Linux GUI I'm as comfortable in as Windows. Ubuntu was getting close there for a while, but then they went to Unity, which I tried to like, but ended up pretty much loathing.

>"Your right to say it", means exactly the right to say it and NOT suffer consequences.

It depends what consequences we're talking about here. There's a difference between the consequence of being thrown in jail for something you said and people thinking less/differently of you because of something you said. I suspect OP was referring to the latter.

Multiplication tables are too deeply ingrained in my brain for that to work on me.

The article says no studies show that flossing has any effect on tooth decay. But what about gingivitis? I know it's anecdotal, but since I started flossing regularly, I've noticed a drastic reduction in the amount of times I get inflamed gums.

The problem is that they control our culture. Boycotting some of these companies involves removing ourselves from many of the shared experiences which allow us to identify with the society and time that we live in. Until our artists figure out a viable way to extract themselves from this machine (through methods such as Louis CK's experiment, perhaps?) I don't see this kind of boycott ever gaining the critical mass it would need to make an impact.

I love the would-be prankster on the Facebook page, trying to sneak an alert("Delete C:/?") onto the page.

I like to hear about how others are organizing stuff like this, because parts of my internet life are anything but organized. I've got the 'stuff to check later' links strewn over a dozen places, including a wiki, pastebin, tumblr and a bunch of other sites I don't remember.

I am pretty happy with my 'regularly used sites' organization though. I don't like having that in the cloud, since the cloud can sometimes be not accessible. I just have as my homepage a hand coded, nicely formatted link page with an embedded Google search box. I always have the source for that page open in Notepad++, so it's real quick to add new stuff there. I also have a script which copies it into my Dropbox dir, so I just run that and my changes are available on all my other computers.
