I'm not seeing how the GP's idea could be used by bad guys to block access to services - it'd be something you could add to your firewall, if you don't use this service, to prevent it's use in gaining persistence.

If the bad guys can modify your firewall config, you already have a problem.

Federal subsidies may contribute, but average farm size has increased, and employment decreased, over a much longer scale - century plus - than any farm program I'm aware of. It's a massive secular trend longer than the monetary items mentioned as well.

Technology/automation is a commonly cited cause, although in this context you'll see references to mechanization.

I can't speak to this design specifically, but in the US, an app like this should _request_ a time slot for crossing, which would get processed by the timing controller. An attacker could use long range bluetooth antennas to pair at a distance, and request for the next 3 intersections, the high tech equivalent of pushing all the buttons in the elevator.

Don't straw man his argument like that. I take it we both consider social mobility good for society. In that frame, defend the estate tax - does it improve social mobility? More than it costs? More efficiently than, say, a Georgist tax, or a basic income?

I've read the wired piece; GP said 'is being actively tested by John Deere and various farmers', implying that there were other lawsuits.

The major objection to 1201 is that it legally precludes what would be fair use in an unprotected work. Breaking HDCP, for instance, is still illegal for a use that would pass a four factors test.

Do you have a link on the John Deere suit(s) you mentioned? That's one I'd be interested in following.
