I think it's more of a Canadian thing than a Waterloo thing. Ironically it's the same Canadian conservative attitude that investors often complain about (not shooting for the moon) that is responsible for the more pragmatic, practical attitude of entrepreneurs here. Waterloo is special because it has three great academic institutions and a culture of entrepreneurship that stretches back many years and encompasses everything from textiles to brewery and distillation industries.

Typically. For example, on reddit you can run this in console to downvote everything on a comment thread:

$.each($(".down.arrow"), function(index, vote){ $(vote).click(); });

I'm sure all of those pilots using iPads in their flight bags are super concerned with how fashionable they look.

Spending an hour of your time in a discussion which helps you reaffirm and/or challenge your own beliefs can be incredibly valuable.

Sounds arrogant or ignorant to me. You've got your solution so well figured out that you can't bother to talk to people about it and gauge their reaction? Sounds like a path to failure.

It wouldn't be significant - leave the garage door open for a few minutes and you would be fine. I imagine he has ventilation designed to take this into consideration.

Oh man...I don't know if I would let anyone drive that car on a wet road (even if it was James May). I cringed when he went through that rather large puddle.

Important to use a dummy email account for these purposes - you didn't mention this as it might be obvious, but the last thing you want to do is use this method with the email address you actually want to use to communicate with the person in question.

I live in Waterloo and know a large handful of startups that have gone to the valley and then came back (bufferbox, vidyard, thalmic, to name a few). Waterloo is a specific case, but I'm not sure it's as bad as you're presenting it to be.

How is what Thalmic is doing in any way considered boring? Insanity.

Playing the race and gender cards is particularly cowardly. Appologize, move on, and become a better person.
