The more popular this gets, the more incentives there are for bad actors to flood hackernews with bullshit. Though I think it's safe to assume it won't be too popular and only a few people will use it for a while.

People want stuff recommended to them from similar people without a profit incentive, that's quite hard to come by... Myanimelist and other longer-form content lists work better because of the nature of the content.

Would love to see something similar with other forums, 4chan perhaps? That's also a forum where the incentive structure doesn't lead to advertising.

Prediction: as agentic code generation gets better, more and more code will be written JIT for it to be executed for security reasons. The engineer of the future is not only the one who uses agents to code, he uses agents to code each time "the" program is ran.

The point that we can now do these seemingly small projects is well put.

My grandmother can't see very well, and she always loved doing crossword puzzles, but the small print was giving her troublem. At the same time, the available crosswords in her language were too simple and boring for her.

So, I vibed a small scraper from some crossword collection, and with smart composition of the final HTML, I managed to get the crossword and the questions to show up on one side while the other side of the page was for the answers.

I still have no idea how the scraper works, and frankly I don't really need to. My challenge now is finding my way to even more challenging and enjoyable crosswords, or maybe even try to get AI to make the crosswords from scratch.

We wanted to pull updated code in our undockerized instances when they were instantiated, so we decided to pull the code from GitHub. Worked out pretty well though after a thousand trials we got a 502 and now we're one step closer to being forced into a CD pipeline.
