The percent of the US population that is foreign-born is about the same as it was before 1920.

To use your vocabulary, it is a pernicious lie to pretend that America's success from WWI through the WWII recoveries was due to immigration policies, rather than other major countries having their infrastructure destroyed and being forced to use the US as a key supplier due to rather large wars.

(and that's ignoring that US population had booms in there that meant that even though immigration was persisting, there was just a big increase in domestic births).

Though if we're going to adopt those immigration policies, perhaps we should also adopt the tax strategies, corporate regulation, and worker unions that accompanied that growth.

Microsoft is the 4th largest company in the world.

There should be a long list of companies whose policies are worse than theirs.

I still have a personal Touch Bar MBP, and I find it annoying.

My problem is that I lightly rest my hands on the keyboard (including the f keys), and this habit is harmless on most Macs, but inadvertently activates the Touch Bar functions.

I actually like the idea a lot, and would probably love it if it required a little more pressure to activate.

Obviously so.

You're either responding to an LLM or a badly malfunctioning human.

China already bans crypto. If America and Europe followed suit, the market for crypto would quickly collapse

Oakland California has about 200,000 cameras if we include public and private cameras, substantially more than other cities.

It also has substantially more robberies than the average city.

What evidence do you have that these cameras are preventing crime? Why would you mistake these cameras for a solution?

It seems to me that you've tacitly acknowledged that the thing you refer to as a "solution" is ineffective at best, and does nothing at all for the specific crime you called out (mugging).

those groups have a lot in common, when you look at historical implementation.

Both create an unaccountable set of elites who control the populace.

Your statement is not only false, it's nonsensical.

Good.

Flock cameras appeal to weak communist attitudes, where there is a desire for a "good" authoritarian government that tracks everyone... for "their own good".

It's very much on purpose. To do it with a modern diesel truck you need to remove the DPF, and reprogram the ECU to run rich and to ignore the missing DPF.

> I don't think it's so much aggression as it is really really terrible infrastructure.

These are separate issues. Both are real.

"I won't sell at any price" reads as an invitation to make a much higher bid.

It seems silly at best to take that as a literal statement.

China would probably be very confused that you're asserting they're not on par with Taiwan.

Yes.

Obviously.
