Traffic control and bot detection...: Browser not supported. Thanks again Cloudflare!

Correct, specifically Firefox 78-esr. Life is hard, and my old mac is out of date. I still haven't found my preferred brand of linux, though sometimes the experience is better there(though not always). I usually also test in PaleMoon, Basilisk, and SeaMonkey, with varying degrees of success. I was lazy this time, and did not test further.

note, the current front-runner for my linux migration is MX. I'm still looking around though. will i ever actually make the plunge. one day my mac will just die i am sure.

Also, there's the whole taking your money and completing the deal part. A whole bunch of sites seem to be breaking their own pages these days, leaving Amazon the sole remaining venue that still works.

I used to buy a lot on ebay.com, however they began to transition to a new page layout a few years ago, which made it too difficult to screen against scam-sellers(scamming was always a bit of an issue there). I briefly switched to walmart.com, however their site started giving a stupid error page for anything but the latest version of google chrome; this started about 2 years ago now.

anyway, here's a quick test i did(in firefox-esr) of a few sites which came to mind:

ebay: still has the dumb new design; certain js features appear broken(can't read customer reviews).

walmart: still get the "technical issues" error page.

newegg: main-page still loads mangled.

zoro: is it working again!? seems functional today... surprise!(i'll have to look into this more later; i did not test checkout)

thriftbooks: the search bar does not work.

so there it is. a bunch of sites i just simply can't shop on anymore. i'm surprised by zoro. will it work when i go to checkout?

...and it looks like it's not working again today. tested firefox-esr, palemoon, and basilisk.

> there is a concrete danger to asymmetric cryptography

I guess there is genuine cause for concern and a reason why i keep seeing these error pages telling me to update my browser.

note, firefox 78(esr) still gets a 32/32 in security on https://html5test.co/

basilisk 2025: 26/32(-6 experimental features) pale moon 33.5: 26/32(-6 exp. feat.) seamonkey 2.53.23: 24/32(-6 exp. -2 prop.)

I don't know why i experience so much hate against spidermonkey and goanna while surfing the web? it appears they are keeping up to date with security features...?

interesting article, though i probably would have skipped if not for a hand injury i'm dealing with.

mentioned in the article:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Games_People_Play_(book)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Berne

all i can think is the guy is nuts. why sabotage the new jail where you have a personal relationship with with the new sheriff and are supposedly making progress fixing all the problems with the old system? i don't know what i was expecting...

Title was a bit rage-baity. And I think you can already do sanitation by writing a function to check input before passing it to innerHTML?

This really just seems like another attempt at reinventing the wheel. Somewhat related, I find it ironic how i cannot browse hacks.mozilla.org in my old version of firefox("Browser not supported"). Also, developer.mozilla.org loads mangled to various degrees in current versions of palemoon, basilisk, and seamonkey

It's like there is some sort of "browser cartel" trying to screw up The Web.

> blog.adafruit.com Your browser is out of date. Update your browser to view this site properly. Click here for more information

if you care about right to repair and the ability of regular people to make a living and choose their own destiny(i.e. live independently of a mega-corp), this type of error message should bother you. HTML is a mature tech. There is no reason for this type of error

"...Still in the early stages, Loops is not yet open sourced, nor has it completed its integration with ActivityPub, the protocol that powers Mastodon, Pixelfed, PeerTube, and other federated apps..."

Hey, PeerTube is already open source, and works on ActivityPub:

https://joinpeertube.org/

this article is sort of clickbaity

Note, https://loops.video/ splash page doesn't even have any content, just a sign up.

"...interested testers will be emailed when it’s possible to actually start using the new app..."

kinda seems fishy.

Note, PeerTube is functional - you can watch and download videos on it today!
