I have Prime, but I can't imagine installing the Amazon app either. The website works just fine.

This is exactly why I don't use it and have it disabled. The arrogance of that message is stunning. I use Aves and it works just fine.

I'm with you. I get great joy knowing that the machine on my wrist started out as rocks (ore) and was refined and fashioned into something that keeps time with very little energy input. Just keep them away from some modern devices, like an Air Pods case, which will magnetize a watch making run poorly unless demagnetized!

I appreciate the sentiment and prefer to use websites instead of installing another stinkin' app. I'll even enable desktop mode if necessary. Mobile apps have one advantage that I can discern: fewer clicks to get to what you want for those who don't want to fuss.

In the late '90s I worked for a startup that was building a video server based on a massive custom SIMD engine, each processor having its own disk drive in a RAID 3 configuration in totality. Our integration lab had a 256 proc system, with each disk having an activity LED. Open all the disk cabinet doors, turn off the lights, play a video, and watch 256 lights blink in unison every 0.8 sec or so. Neat!

The Tesla Live Camera/Sentry Mode feature is watching by design in the name of security. What they actually do with the footage is anyone's guess. And any car with a panoramic camera can do the same.

Also the name of prog supergroup Transatlantic's first album, SMPT:E, a play on the band members names.

Yes, I had a flurry of them over the past two weeks when clicking the comments link. Comes and goes even on the same post. Running Chrome on Android with script enabled.

For me in particular, hard disagree. Had a challenging and fun career until it turned into the same problems, different year. Retirement lets me pursue wide interests, interact with a more diverse group of people, and generally be a better human. Managing people is manipulation and while successful at it, I always found it a bit distasteful in spite of them thinking I'm a good guy

I love that it has a standard RJ45 ethernet connector.

Having used only various ESP and RPi types, I found the article informative and the comments moreso. AI slop or not, a list is a good place to start.

I hear this expression said with the incorrect "could" more often than than with the correct "couldn't." I attribute this to one of the following:

- the speaker is using wry sarcasm, although the inflection is usually wrong.

- the speaker actually does care a bit.

- it's easier to say "could" or it's habit.

I try not to be a pedant about this, but often fall. Yeah, I'm fun at parties.
