I'm going to agree with you, and I too have been sparing a thankful thought or two for the people that made the show what it was. The producers, writers, directors all had a hand in shaping that interpretation of the future (a future that day by day seems less and less likely).

If anything I'd say it's 50/50

Sorry "very close"? Sometimes it feels like I'm the only one not drinking anything in the Kool aid drinking Oktoberfest I've been shoved into.

What are you basing this on? Why would LLMs exhibit sentience?

It does feel like people just like adding additional hype for the sake of being in on the hype. Fomo, pushed by oligarchs who would push their mother off a bridge for a trillion dollar IPO.

i tried ghostty, rio, wezterm, they all stuck for about a month or so... then the subtle usability issues become too much, and i wonder why i switched from iterm2 to begin with. there's something to be said for years of polish, and feature work that is well-baked.

iterm2 is fast, reliable, and second nature. i don't have to edit settings every day.

People buy iphones due to network effect, android was late to the RCS game and now it's a moot point anyway.

How many people use an iPhone to its maximum? Isn't it the same with models? I think engineer's like to flex that they need a top of the line frontier model for their shitty corp projects. A Chinese model will write your Jenkinsfile just fine.

What a funny pov?? Mathematics and other pure sciences are about human understanding. You're saying if humans cannot understand the thing that was for human understanding, that's ok? That's like saying all the world's food is now inedible, but that's ok because a blender can consume it still.

You're failing to differentiate what Claude Code means here. The models, no one argues that they're not good. If you mean Claude code the local agent, there are now dozens of smaller, faster, lighter harnesses that do everything the Claude tui does and more.

Yes, this is a different way of doing things, and it's clearly working for them, but there is no direct line between that and a "ahead of the pack" product.

I think gp was saying they'd never give it to you, not that they'd never make progress.

It seems like there's a similar project every week.

would you rather the reverse to be true? if someone donates enough that's sufficient for the BDFL to silence their opinions?

at least with youtube, you can be quite defensive with what it's shoving down your throat.

turn off view history, so you don't see 100 toilet videos after watching a video on japanese toilets.

aggressively click "Don't show me this" in its video suggestions, whenever it strays towards politics or similar bait.

despite the inundation of slop, rage bait, and brain rot, youtube still has a goldmine of good content if you can defend yourself from the rest.

It's because the hypemaxxing is increasing along the same trajectories. You can't tell me that these CEOs and marketing departments are not absolutely giddy about the jail breaks, hugging face, etc. It's hard to make sense of this shit if the same entities doomsaying are the same ones that are profiting and full steam ahead anyway.

That's the core tension — and you're right to call it out! Let me walk back my claims.

i don't know how you're equating "computing freedom" with regulation of privacy guards. should FTC not care about that? can you elaborate?
