Weird that Amazon was said to have planned to cut back it's hardware development recently (Alexa devices), and here Apple is rolling out a new product in the same space.

I wish there was a "Reasons I didn't become a manager, ranked" to help my career decisions.

I'm sorry, just no. They look ridiculous.

Why is it always assumed the reader knows the function of 15 obscure libraries and/or frameworks when posting projects like this?

I kinda wondered myself if this was some kind of coordinated effort to make Firefox not work. It wouldn't surprise me if it was later discovered that Google paid some Linux subsystem maintainer to slip in some nefarious code somewhere that altered the way Linux implements rendering specifications ever so slightly such that Firefox appeared broken. Just the conspiracy theorist in me.

See, this is the kind of thing that makes Firefox cool. They have not only just as good of developer console tools as Chrome, they have forward thinking, truly user-oriented policies. They have had trouble in the recent past at securing funding, but something tells me their user philosophy might save them when all the others turn completely to corporate greed as their main operating mechanism (if they already haven't).

It is possible to write your own extension and still use it in Chrome as long as it's not bundled. It would be a huge pain to get the source for uBlock origin and implement it locally yourself, but it might be worth the pain to block ads.

Absolutely correct. If you always mow in the same direction, the grass always gets pushed in the same way by the lawnmowers blades and it will eventually morph to that direction and lose strength, which appears as grass that doesn't stand straight up, and it looks worse.

Here, the author used a much less domain-specific LLM and it sounds like it produced good results. This made me wonder about other's experiences using LLMs to produce both CAD and schematics/pcb layout. Are there any good references people could leave of the tools people are using for this kind of AI-assisted design that are producing acceptable results today?

I tried Flux.ai for electronics for example, and found it too confusing and not as helpful as I'd hoped. I'm hopeful that I can lean on generic AI tools in the future to augment some of the detailed design (while still applying thorough oversight and review of what's produced based on experience).

> they were not following the certification requirements before...

Those requirements didn't yet exist. The multitude of new safety analysis requirements enacted by the Aircraft Certification, Safety, and Accountability Act that was passed in 2020 just overlapped the program's (then) planned introduction, which also slid.

I wish I could just go back to the days before AI and cell phones. The world seemed to move fast then, but it really hadn't yet.

This is the new reality for all airliners now that there are much more rigorous mandatory safety analyses in place. The 777-9 just happened to be on the edge of certification when they came along.

Like some others have said, couldn't this be just another "look how amazing AI is" marketing test from OpenAI with the goal of hyping up AI's capabilities in an attempt to make people regard it as God-like, thereby keeping it from falling into the been-there, done-that category that all new tech eventually occupies?
