the guys from servicestack went through this process (i am in no way affiliated wit them), they got some backlash from a move to licensed model iirc, but also, it allowed them to be sustainable and grow into a company that allowd them to continue supporting the products.

perhaps something the same? a cheap/free model for open source projects / schools etc , free for single devs or small shops, and paid for $Corps... yeah, you'll lose a few users from companies who only want something for free, but then, what have you lost, really? If people dont value their own time, thats their choice to make the $ vs Benefit calculation.

good luck

"recruit for" is the killer thing here. Its highly geographically dependent, or if you ultimately want to employ remote workers, you'll have a different set of challenges. If you go down the dotnet route, I recommend taking a peak at ServiceStack, (not affiliated, but I use it myself), Laravel is obviously the php winner, but I cannot speak for any other languages (and i personally avoid PHP ;)

Why not take a peak at local recruitment boards, if you want local workers, or poke around on upwork etc if you're thinking about outsourcing. You'll soon get a decent idea.

I believe you should mark this as Show HN.

Also, your SSL doesn't appear to be installed/working.

This, to me, is terrible advice. Being a successful contractor isn't about "having no competition", that's good for news headlines about old guys earning top dollar for maintaining cobol mainframes but not much else.

Pick tools that are used a million times per day (java, sql, whatever) by a million companies who will always need extra professionals that can add value quickly when onboarded to a new team.

More to the point, start researching the job markets wherever you plan to work. Stop guessing, do research. Good luck.

Long term investing enthusiast for the past 15 or so years, i read "the psychology of money" by morgan house. Completely changed my perspective on risk, return, timing, life choices and decision paths. Simple, but highly highly recommended.

Google Ernie Chan trading. I don't agree with the trading (I am pro investing) but Ernie explains as a practitioner

I put this question in LinkedIn several months ago, am still yet to hear even a single attempt at claiming a real business model/profitability.

Just started investigating it, but I'm not really a front end guy, just forced to get my hands dirty during some MVP prototyping. If you find good resource or have good/bad experience, please do post about them.

Adam, the value of a community is somewhat diminished, in my opinion, if it's encouraged to lazily throw your problems up in the air and yell "does anyone know the answer to my question" before they've made even a cursory attempt to research or solve the problem themselves. Why on earth pollute a forum with more noise?

It's amazing how many people e stumble across the Ask HN and manage to navigate the sign-up-and-post procedure but fail to grasp how Google works. Here's some suggested search terms "mvp" , "proof of concept", "how do I validate my idea", or perhaps "is there anyone out there who can help me Google"?

What's the system? Do the absolute bare minimum required for success, and if you don't need the additional overhead, avoid it. Find Jimmy bogard on vertical slice architecture in YouTube for some good talk on pragmatic , simple designs winning over theoretically sound but heavy and unnecessary architectures, well worth a look
