Mensa most often attracts the deeply insecure and insufferably arrogant. I worked with several IITians and multiple PhD/MD’s... how many joined Mensa? Zero (0). Sure, IITians reminisced about rank every now and then, but they didn’t have social clubs about it.

But hey, to each their own. And if it reduces the density of people I’d rather avoid everywhere else, expand Mensa with gusto.

I have perfect vision now but massive genetic risks for ARMD and glaucoma; when I get much older, blindness is likely without proper lifestyle and care. I’m fine with periodically going to optometrists who’s expertise will catch such issues. I can understand people whom have stable prescriptions not needing expertise all the time, but effectively decimating optometrists would be a horrible idea. As a diversification of risk, optometrists need to specialize and/or get side businesses because automation will incessantly nibble away at every profession and risk institutional wisdom that isn’t easily rebuilt.

It’s smart because holding BTC in a Tulip-bulb crisis is insanely risky. This current crisis is due to elastic demand based on short-lived, fashionable attention of a tiny currency, whereas common currencies are more inelastic because their usage and scale lends themselves to more stability. The value will collapse when people lose interest or when large institutions get over the mania of New Relationship Energy. Durable, appreciating assets that are easily liquidated are ideal for holding balance sheet value. For transactions, BTC maybe fine but even that is risky.

It will be interesting to see if shorting will be possible.

Advertising/PR manufactures beliefs, values, preferences and consent every day. Most people these days forgot or were not aware of how they were brainwashed by content or by other people into internalizing what they believe.

The longer-term solutions to home delivery are refrigerated and non-refrigerated storage pods with universal app access. These can either be built into a house / garage or be free-standing. This reduces the risks of having delivery people enter your home, which is a bad idea.

Also, in general, in tort-happy America, delivery people and other field workers should always wear bodycams to prove they were in the right because random people can and do make up convincing stories to file lawsuit$.

Hypocracy is a bikeshedding dimension. China and the US both serve the politically-connected first and the people last; China does it by force and the US does it by manufacturing consent. Regardless of political system, the people must rise up and demand a fair government and insist on sensible regulations and justice with eternal vigilance. Power never cedes anything without a fight.

It’s a heckuva improvement on “clean” coal which produces the most greanhouse gases per BTU of any fuel. Nuclear still suffers from the distributed waste issue without a permanent storage facility or closed-loop reprocessing. Solar and wind are the ways to go long term. Solar especially, considering insolation gives a median daily recovery potential of about 1 kWh / m^2.

Nope. I remember when MTurk came out, used the API and tried some of the work units. For the most part, it really is moot though for most tasks now, except for insanely complex ones or new business processes that haven’t been automated yet. This decline of usefulness is due to the fact recent AI/ML/DL, after little training, can complete mundane, repetitive tasks faster and with far better accuracy and precision than all humans.
