Curious about your setup if you don’t mind elaborating a bit for us? What models are you using and how do you find they compare? The 128gb model costs less than one months salary for a medium level engineer here, they look quite attractive.

You’re still on slackware? I’ve not thought about it in years! How’re things over there?

It’s really great to see more of these @Aphyr, I really enjoy them and learn something from each. Thank you!

These people tend to outgrow that tho. I def would have pirated books as a youth as it’d save me a trip to the library. Now i’m old and have money, I would never pirate a book as I value both contributing to the author and owning the physical thing. Maybe some exceptions if it’s in some niche tech or something and don’t wanna commit yet..

Wouldn’t you rather live in a world where book piracy is rampant than one where many people just don’t read anything?

Sure, firewall bugs exist. I’m not sure what you’re trying to prove here, that it’s impossible to be fully secure? That’s not news to any of us. If you don’t see any difference in attack surface using defense in depth and separating concerns (and platforms! we quite like BSDs for our firewalls) then i’m not sure really what to tell you.

The devops department at my company, which has around 500 services across a load of kubernetes clusters / regions are all amazed at how well gpt-6.1-luna is at their jobs. They've all been using it exclusively for 2 weeks and between them have spent like $400.

The take where in a couple years there will be a massive revert or that anyone cares about terraform indentation or a shitty yaml template is wildly optimistic.

I do hope you're right though, but I'm not seeing it from my side of the fence.

    1. Good engineers should have had a firewall/waf/nat/thingy infront of their linux systems, and alerting at least on those directly exposed to reduce/eliminate blast radius
    2. Good engineers don't enable MTCP (which as far as I can tell is largely a desktop feature) on firewalls
    3. ???
    4. Profit!

Yes, it’s a complete auth bypass. All you need is the email address of a user and they’ll likely sign CSRs for any domains under that account.

It’s the end for them, I imagine.

Don't piss off the internet, there will be consequences. I guess.

Ever dealt with key generation on a HSM?

Thousand line shell scripts that use expect to drive 30+ answers to a multi-choice interactive tui (that only works on one version of redhat from 2008 or something) is not so unusual, can totally understand how it happened. No excuses in that though.

Or, you know, use client certificates so the bots can’t hit you.

Those can leak / be stolen of course, but a bunch of my clients php apis survived as without a cert they’re told to fuck right off.

It does make their client onboarding a bit harder but it’s a trade off which seems to have been the right one.
