How do you deal with voltage balance when replacing one bad cell out of a whole battery? My understanding is that lithium ion battery cells need to be close to each other in voltage or else they suddenly rebalance when reconnected, and can burst into flames.

Notepad also understands line endings and text encodings now, instead of always writing as CRLF UTF-16. That eliminates a whole class of “save file in notepad, corrupting it” trouble.

Not so much anymore. The standard deduction for a married couple is now above 30k. It would take a large mortgage to pay that kind of interest in a single year. (Principle is not deductible; only interest)

WinRT is not the same thing as managed .NET code. There is no requirement that a UWP is .NET. There are many examples of unmanaged C++ UWPs, including the open source Windows Terminal.

WinRT is a mechanism to express APIs in a way that is amenable to cross-language usage. It is built on top of COM, and is not a replacement for COM.

I don’t personally have the time or inclination to do any retrocomputing, but I love seeing the repairs that people do for them. It’s interesting in a way I wouldn’t have expected. Thank you for sharing.

If you haven’t already look up ‘if constexpr’ in cpp17 and newer. It lets you have compile time branches in a single function.

That’s similar to what vcpkg does under the covers. It clones the repo containing the dependency’s source code and then compiles it using the same compiler as the rest of your project. This avoids static libraries and ABI considerations while also avoiding having to copy/paste their entire source tree into your own.

Same on an iPhone 15. Reader mode worked great, though.

I was personally affected by this, but it did not harm me. The battery drain was obnoxiously high (having to charge 2x a day instead of once every 2-3 days). I am always near a power plug so I was never in much danger of shutdown. However, I can easily imagine how others would be.

I ended up realizing something was odd with the app and tried uninstalling/reinstalling the app to fix it. Which did in fact fix it (at least temporarily).

Not the OP, but I don’t think they meant that the build output is in a container. They meant that the thing you use to compile the code is in docker (and you just copy out the result). That would help ensure consistency of builds without having any effect on downstream users.

Capacity is the most they can produce at any given time. Solar only produces power during the day. Geothermal produces power 24 hours a day, without any regard for day or night. Therefore for the same “capacity” geothermal will produce more power per day because it produces for more hours a day at the same rate.

(This does not account for any complications such as the cost of that capacity or whether geothermal has other downtime to consider.)

That is some of it. The function names also include a lot of template specializations (thanks to a newer release of MSVC). Between lots of functions and very long names it adds up quickly. The function names are all unique so there are no savings from string pooling.
