When somebody says:

> They represented years of hard work, sacrifice, aspiration, and the dignity of finally being able to afford something that was genuinely well made. Something that would last. Something that could be passed down.

you're probably not thinking plastic Casio. Casio are great watches that are accessible to just about everybody on the planet.

> These weren't merely consumer products. They were milestones. They represented years of hard work, sacrifice, aspiration, and the dignity of finally being able to afford something that was genuinely well made. Something that would last. Something that could be passed down.

That’s basically what Rolex and other Swiss watchmakers say about their products.

How well are the AI companies stocked up on Aerons and other nice chairs? I'm guessing a lot of us have chairs dating back to the dotcom bust 20 years ago and could use an upgrade...

> In 2008 the USA managed to export the shit assets generated by the mortgage boom, mostly to Europe

I didn't know about this. How did it work?

My dad had Lewy body dementia when he died and it was awful. I'm really sorry to hear that Stewart and his family had to deal with that.

That page talks about what to do if somebody with LBD is thinking about suicide. After seeing what that disease does, interfering with those plans seems inhumane to me.

Are you also opposed to school lunch programs that provide free or very low cost food to students?

I had a similar reaction but after thinking a bit, I can see some merit in the idea.

I wouldn't mind if my mom had access to a free grocery delivery service. She's 80 and has very bad vision.

Don't grid operators typically have excess capacity most of the time?

> One consistent thread was that cooking is supposed to present you with difficulties and challenges and the whole point is figuring them out by yourself.

That’s such a dumb thing to say. When I’m making something for me and my wife, I want a recipe that is idiot proof.

It might not be the right machine for you and that's ok.

If I needed one of these for my work (I don't) and was going to be using it every day for the next two years, I think I could justify it. It would be about $4 / day which is within reach. Add in the fact that Mac's have decent resale value and the daily expense could be quite a bit less.
