But that's precisely my point: they must be defeated, putting in a new status quo that is a radical rupture with how things are right now. Antitrust laws, forcing monopolies to break themselves into smaller companies, the big labor movements and their conquests, and the New Deal were radical changes!

As I said, in my opinion, of course, one regulator trying to do solve it could never succeed in the regulation having its intended consequences. As it is, trying to control big tech fails, and tend to leat to those that try being replaced from their positions, being them elected officials or not.

There is a legal, political, informational and economic system in place guaranteeing that those who have real power (big tech, finance, military-industrial compelx, etc) can not have that power challenged through the regular means that, formally, do exist to keep them in check. They are able to circumvent and rewrite rules, to manipulate public discourse and elections through lobbying, traditional media and the algorithm.

This system could only be broken through a very radical change akin to a revolution, I think.

I think that it is necessary a radical political change in the US, akin to a revolution, to be able to pass and enforce meaningful regulation against big tech companies. It's the same as going against the military-industrial complex or big finance. They integrated themselves to this power structure that guarantees their interests come first not only in internal policy, but also in foreign policy. Big tech is a limb of the US empire.

Capitalism replaced businesses that had a social value, in that they helped to form communities, foster dialogue, and promote concrete experiences that you had with your body, mediated by your senses and your will, for usage of tools that only exist to lock you into consumption, withour a community, in experiences that are virtual and meaningless, mediated by the tool itself and for itself.

More like a consequence of capitalism, as big tech companies used their massive capital to instrumentalize and develop knowledge to keep mostly everyone dependent and addicted to their systems. Due to the way capitalism work, when a push back against it through public policies was staged, they bought their way out of regulation of their toxic platforms and were allowed to retain their monopolies.

They did it all over Latin America and Africa during the entire cold war as well. And, I assume, they still back coups all around, if it is deemed that the dictatorship to be instated will better foster the interests of the government of the United States and the oligarchies behind it...

Rather than it being greediness by a class of individuals, in my view, it is that capitalism rewards greediness, and sometimes it obligates you to be greedy when you are just an employee or selling a service. People are inserted in a system composed by many layers that incentivize and obligate greediness.

I rather think the naming is so that as little people as possible trust the site, so less people claim the money they are entitled to.

"and this being russia...", is there a place where most people are not, for the most part, looking out for themselves? You seem to be implying that Russia is special in that regard.

To correct your mistakes won't you read again, or be equivalently aware, of what you previously wrote?

Thank you! I got interested in using scuttlebutt, I would like to get involved in a social network not used by many; was sad to see that it isn't maintained anymore, so probably not safe.

If not wanting to harm others, AND wanting to help others were core beliefs held by everyone, I think quite soon we would have nothing to worry about.

The fact that they willingly took those jobs does not mean they are being treated fairly, it means they had no better option and need to survive.
