I didn't want to look it up because it is more interesting in engaging with other people. If I looked it up I would immediately know if I was right or wrong and wouldn't have even bothered looking at your reply.

I agree with you it is worth looking at history.

Meh it would be like if you were a mountain guide that took people up Everest. One day a helicopter operator started taking people and everyone lost interest in climbing. You should be happy, the problem of getting to the top is solved!

It was never just about the destination.

City planning by far. In much of the US it is simply unsafe to walk.

On most projects you really only need one person to set it up one time with any deep level of understanding. Having each person on a project go deep into the weeds on how the package manager works is not very useful. That time would be better spend on almost anything else.

These are not my rules. I was responding to the person above me. It was he who was saying consciousness is responding to the environment. I too disagree with that definition. A thermometer or a NAND gate responds to its environment but I do not believe either is conscious.

I strongly disagree that llm's are conscious of their environment. Even an insect reacts to light and someone attempting to swat at it. An llm barely even receives input from its environment.

Why does it matter how you "should" act if there is no free will. You are just going to act how your are going to act.

Who decides who is corrupt? The dictator that rules the country? You? Every single dictatorships always accuses their political enemies of corruption.

A country with high levels of corruption cannot be trusted to fairly carry out capital punishment.

Isn't recreational drug use way down (especially alcohol)? All the others are definitely not helping.

Jevon's paradox has to do with consuming resources, not employment. There are plenty of examples of fields getting more efficient and employment falling. Farming and manufacturing being 2 examples.

We have had nuclear weapons for less than a century. It takes one guy, one time for it to all go to shit. We are not out of the woods yet and we will never be.
