>If those companies can pay for those loans from the DRAM facilitated revenue then it will have been an efficient use of resources.

"Efficient use of resources" is not some absolute based on mere energy or economics calculations, it depends on the goal.

If the goal is "reduce reliance on big tech", "privacy", "autonomy", and so on, then the most efficient use of resources if to say fuck you to Big AI and not let them hoard ram and gpus.

Nobody put "your computer isn't idle sometimes" as a problem, or shamed users for it.

What they did was to say "hey, we can leverage your idle computer to help process this".

Different perspective.

>Weirdly, underutilization of hardware was never a problem before. In fact, wastefulness is so ingrained in programming culture that the previous hype - blockchain - was about an explicit race over who could waste the most computing power on nonsensical calculations.

Same with AI. AI use is a colossal waste, for all kinds of frivolous purposes (e.g. some person's ai girfriend chat, or someone asking about K-pop lore, or slop image generation, or slop "dark internet posts"), but also to facilitate "serious" business that we'd be better if it wasn't done at all.

Then we all get shit service based on interrupted operation without due maintenance and more stress.

>The irony here with Yen (and to be clear, fuck him) is that Proton has been _slow as molasses_ since the beginning. It took them literal years to launch a calendar. A calendar!

As if that's a problem? I want them to be my fucking encrypted email. Not a calendar. Not a backup. Not a VPN. And they've already stretched to all kinds of shit.

> Moving faster is good.

Says who? For what purpose? To whose benefit?

I want my encrypted email company to move slow, deliberately, and very carefully.

I'd like most software in general to move slower. Some, I'd like to not move at all. I hate churn for churn's sake, or piling useless features just so you pretend you did something to justify your subscription pricing, both of which were already the norm before AI and are worse now.

To speak in Apple terms, we don't miss more and faster crap novelties. We miss the Snow Leopard releases.

"I'm as sharp as ever says SRE whose skills declined 30% in 2 years of AI use" - if there was a tech space Onion

It's straight the exact opposite of racist.

It's a term long used by blacks themselves, as well as black allies, abolitionists, anti-seggregation activists etc, to refer to the "palatable to the whites, makes too many consessions" type.

>and he says you are W. R. O. N. G.

Your argument is an appeal to authority and "wrong" spelled like initials? What are you, 15?

Yes, Booker T Washington was a bigger expert on race issues concerning African Americans than all of us (nobody doubts that).

Not an expert on global race relations, or the conditions abroad. And obviously those uterrances were an expression of american exceptionalism, and very likely placating white US audiences (as a champion of a contested matter like race relations you never got far if you don't appear patriotic enough. That had to wait until much later with figures like Malcom X, and he didn't have the best of receptions of course).

>but it is wrong to say that the US was the worst. It wasn't.

Nobody said it was the worse.

Don't have to look up Belgium, I know of it (and Belgium was in the Congo and Ruanda basically, not Africa in general).

Doesn't mean the US, with KKK, Jim Crow, seggregation, and the rest was the best country in the world for blacks to live.

>said in an 1895 speech in Alanta that despite the civil rights challenges faced by African Americans, that America was the best place in the world for Africans to live and prosper.

Maybe because Americans, whether black like Booker T Washington or white like Donald J. Trump, are notoriously ignorant on living conditions elsewhere, and conditioned to believe their country is the greatest ever place to live, even if it's way behind dozens of life metrics most of the western world.
