The process of deleting your account isn't something that has to be you can do yourself using a "delete my account" button with half a dozen confirmation boxes.

They can process it themselves by sending a request and still be GDPR compliant.

Forget about the money part for a while; look at problems to solve and things you can build as learning exercises to try and get your skills up to scratch. Look at a todo app - boring I know but you'll learn a lot.

I've built a few things I find useful and expanding on them to try and monetise them.

I get this glitch too. Nice concept though

Koken is more of a solution for building a photography based website. It wouldn't work for photos you'd want to keep private.

You can create a segment and export it as a CSV, that way you can then reimport into a new list with the related GDPR fields and delete the old list.

I wouldn't necessarily say it's a dark pattern, it's just a bad UI.

GDPR fields aren't accessible through the API at the minute, MailChimp are apparently working on it but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I've used MailChimp a lot and it's good Campaign Monitor is awesome from a templating standpoint. Sendy is by far the cheapest and is self hosted (I haven't used this so can't say whether it's any good or not)

Drip seems really focused on marketing automation for ecommerce rather than general email marketing with its built in ECRM

Where do you live?? If you are within the EU you must have been living under a rock for the past 6 months.

GDPR is new legislation that evolves most data protection laws to make it better for consumers to be in control of their digital information.

This includes your name and email address for marketing purposes as well as so much more. If the organisation didn't follow best practice and full gain consent to be able to contact you to establish this beyond a point of doubt.

If the data is anonymised when collected you can't follow through with the right to erasure as they're should be nothing uniquely identifiable for that user.

Otherwise you have to do it on request, either by email or form submission or link; automated or manually as you will have 24 hours to follow through with the request. I'd keep track of these requests just in case you need to restore a backup where their data still exists, to notify them and delete their data again from the backup.
