I had this feature turned on until I missed food delivery 2-3 times in a row.

A fantastic book by Vernon Vinge called “A Deepness in the Sky” toys around with this idea a lot actually.

There is a virus that can release neurotoxins and it is flipped in very specific parts of the brain with a MRI-like device. This can elicit a state of “Focus” where the person (victim more like) becomes totally obsessed with a particular idea or subject. They devote all energy towards this subject and can make stunning breakthroughs on difficult topics because they are utterly and completely _obssessed_ with whatever topic they are supposed to be.

They are held captives by their own fascination and work as slaves.

I know this is taking the idea a bit far from the point, but it’s an interesting extension of the idea.

My guess would be that the videos processed in their work are quite small to limit computation time

These especially suck in China. It’s especially painful when you are finally free and clear of the great firewall only to be stopped by a mistuned fraud filter.

Scratches? My daily commute on the Caltrain quickly cured me of this concern. The bike racks on the Caltrain are simple and effective IMO, but essentially just cram bikes together with elastic straps.

It’s a great way to unblock lots of people to utilize trains that wouldn’t otherwise. 2 or 3 cars of the train are devoted to bikes. That certainly is indicative of the environment and the temperate California weather, but still. Makes for a marvelous multimodal commute for me.

I have had the absolute joy of working with gRPC services recently. Static schemas and built in streaming mechanics are fantastic. It definitely removes a lot of my gripes with REST endpoints by design.

Thanks a lot for sharing this video! This is absolutely the kind of thing that I hope to find on HN. Plan to spend all of tomorrow on this.

I’m not sure about this. This kind of integration test would almost certainly be performed in a closed course (parking lot / garage).

This is absolutely happening at scale in Chinese malls and even those small 7/11 style corner stores. Correlating profiles with Alipay/facial recognition/WiFi/Bluetooth tracking.

Asian ==> Chinese

This is definitely a corner case and the amount of such corner cases balloon into numbers difficult to boggle quickly.

I agree this is an egregious miss, but absolutely understandable from an engineers perspective.

I’m sure no one is happy with this outcome.

I came here to say this. That one feature makes their site unreadable for me on mobile.

This generates pressure, driving up prices by constricting housing supply sure, but what is preventing SF from constructing lots and lots of new buildings? If there is pressure to increase the amount of available housing, then the government of SF has a Civic responsibility to create an environment where the housing supply can increase. Full stop. Property speculation will always take place.
