The idea that Twitter is a "public square" was recently popularized purely to create the argument that it should be owned and/or heavily regulated by the government. The imagined goal of this is for Twitter to somehow no longer have a moderation policy and only follow by the first amendment.

This isn't the Supreme Court. They don't need to be consistent and they are going to see past the pointless trolling.

Even on the latest Safari it doesn't work: 10.13.1 (17B48) with macOS: 10.13.1 (17B48)

Nothing about that page seems like it would stop Reader so I filed a Radar about it.

The natural reaction to that is that at least you didn't actually lose any money. If you were carrying around cash then that cash would be gone forever.

It may be the case that people need to carry around cards like they are cash. That is, to keep a card at home or in a bank box that's tied to some other account with emergency funds.

It does say something terrible about our current bank system that nearly everything takes a least day if not a week to process, but keeping around cash won't change that.

Another way around this is to just request a modern modem. I recognize that modem as an older model and, especially if it is having hardware problems, you can just call up AT&T and ask for their newer model (not sure if it is still the newest) 5268ACFXN.

There's not much to remove. You install Flash on macOS separately and Safari will load that in as a plugin. It seems obvious that Safari will remove that plugin functionality on or before 2020.

In my own experience, people who speak Esperanto are more likely to be against the status quo of nationalism and tend to be against the imperialist nature of their own or other large governments. They tend to be for the free travel of people and against strict immigration laws. Those ideologies square well with political movements of communism, anarchism, libertarianism, etcetera which are usually on the fringes of society.

It is a much easier and possibly the easiest language to learn especially for those who already speak a latin-based language. In some cases, people can be thought of as fluent with a couple months of learning the language.

It's also not tied to any particular nation which makes it easier for people to adopt without feeling like they are just being taken over by another culture.

This is all to say that Esperanto is genuinely better as a second language for Europe and the Americas if not the world.

As make3 said, bandwidth can be important, but it's also becoming more-so the case that people have computers that only come with USB-C. Obviously not a dealbreaker since people can just buy an adapter, but it's an issue worth bringing up.

It would be against the interests of Google for people to subscribe/pay for articles rather than searching through Google News for ad-supported articles.

It's against Apple's interests to do anything that isn't device-specific and the same could probably be said about Amazon & Kindle.

That's not the same thing?

If you're interested, the Ukraine TLD is .ua.

To say they stole it from Ukraine in the same way they stole the .io TLD would mean that they would have to take over the entire country of Ukraine. Maybe the Russian government will have control of the .ua TLD someday.

Do you mean a Skype call? Because you absolutely can make a phone call or FaceTime video/audio call from contacts.

I've seen this a lot on the systemd GitHub Issues. A bug is reported, Pottering describes it as not a bug and closes it himself, then everyone else disagrees and says that it needs to be fixed.

Why is this on HN?

That's the only time he mentioned a number of followers.
