I worked for a very old school manufacturing company based in Switzerland. We wanted to roll our own IoT platform for sensors in the factory. We spoke to MS, what they had was a load of garbage, so we decided to carry on as we were. I later found out that the MS CEO called the CEO of this company and from then on we were fighting every day as to why we weren’t using MS. This was a private company, not even a big spend, yet they got the CEO involved on sales calls? That’s when I realised how corrupt it was an org.

It doesn’t really work like that in the UK. I doubt you’d get anyone to take it on, let alone for feee. Proving the material impact would be hard. She’s not been named publicly, no lost earnings etc. I would like to think this sort of thing means we get better regulation, but who am I kidding.

It’s also the heavy manipulation of the free and social press by Murdoch, Paul Darce and state actors.

After 4 years of EV ownership this is exactly how it works for me and my friends, in the UK at least.

I come to hacker news for this kind of well written content. As a person who works in a non engineering role (although I started out there) this is brilliantly written and explained. Thank-you.

Is the answer not because the world was at war and throwing all it's resources into beating the other side? Surely the GDP spend per capita on science and research was far what it has been since.

Not everyone works at your pace, and sometimes matching someone else's cadence can be a healthy exercise and an opportunity for growth.
