HN, iPhone apps, and web apps, video games, Star Wars and comic movies, more cars and trucks than ever

I am raising my kids to show zero respect to elders given in to nihilism to preserve their own extravagance

Fwiw I find social media scores corny

Just stokes addiction to a false sense of empowerment and social contribution

Downvote away to hide from ideas and opinions you don't like.

Conservative people are the only people so dysregulated by ideas they don't understand or that do not validate prior experience and embedded biases they just try to hide them from view. Not the kind of people whose judgment I concern myself with in any meaningful way

They aren't destroying work.

Humans can still work on their yards and homes and yadda yadda

They’re destroying labor exploiting knowledge "jobs" which is of course something NY Times and similar must be against or they might have to do work for themselves

Programmers do not build a computer. EEs and computer engineers do that.

They are driving (lol) towards the sale of a computer with a model on chip without a programmer salary and benefits adding to cost and resource use (all the tools of the trade need to be stored and copied around).

This is capitalism, not honorific obligationism! Saving your job is no one else's burden! Disrupt! (YC crowd 15 years ago). Oh how the turn tables.

Move the context of the code to the presentation layer and eliminate state by keeping the hardware focused on computing geometric transforms. Biggidy bam label the data on the display and save both geometry and labels

There's no reason for biz logic context to exist in code.

What makes computers useful is solving problems

I don't care if they adhere to written and oral traditions of the past or some other means

I need to add and divide and test values in memory. I don't care what it looks like to do that.

I don't need a passenger telling me how to drive. Why would I want a patronizing coder telling me how to use a machine?

> A decent model with a great harness beats a great model with a bad harness.

Agreed. I don't use off the shelf skills and such. I craft my own that best serve the abstract problem rather than act as generic code tools.

If I am working on a game I don't want a bunch of generic language tools and skills, I want game engine specific, Vulkan specific constraints, GPU pipeline specific context that are whittled down themselves to fit the entity data model of the specific game

Gemma 4 and Qwen3.6 then crank out banger results after Gemini plans and architecture are handed to them (I scrape the AI Studio log from Gdrive rather than use the Gemini APIs)

I quit using RAG and MCP build out the harness without them.

Imo RAG and MCP were same old software industry effort of conjuring endless general purpose software things to discuss at the expense of doing a good job within reasonable constraints

Nvidia makes real things, grinds to push computing forward and are coincidentally wrapped up in the latest hype cycle in a big way

Software-only startups make nothing but hype and (these days) merely copy-paste existing frameworks and libraries into an AWS account, fill in predefined config parameters, generate zero net new knowledge

Studied applied physics and EE in college, been in high tech eng for almost 3 decades and lived through the evolution of software truth still being discovery into streamlined template filling.

People need jobs in this political system so whatever but I know a lot about engineering across contexts and where the bleeding edge is and know SaaS startups are rarely engaged in pushing the edge out further. It's a jobs program to validate political memes

Yeah how many of us know how to build an ICE engine or shoes of any meaningful quality

We set upon end of human craftsmanship decades ago

Math is probably the easiest to reclaim given its right in front our faces going about daily life. The syntax of math is not that important; real world quantification the syntax is meant to represent will still exist. Our biochemistry implicitly operates on senses of enough food and water, etc.

Such measures are so embedded in the daily routines we live an intuition will always exist

No one is born knowing how to make a computer as we know them today. A cup half filled is obvious
