> But this can be overridden by contracts and for basically all white collar and higher paid jobs, it is.

Is this really true? I believe all of my software engineering jobs have been at will, and there was nothing in the documents I signed that would give me any benefits or rights if my employer wanted to fire me.

My biggest question here is are they not just feeding the input into a hash function, why can't it be longer than 20 characters?

I have a Knog Cobber. While it doesn't shut off automatically, it's bright enough that I think it would be quite unlikely to finish the ride without noticing the light is still on.

An exception is bikepackers, who may prize reliability and runtime over brightness and weight. But then the dynamo we're talking about is $200-$400 and that's not including the light.

They just agreed to a $131 million settlement. The article says this is a hundred times what they spent to prevent Mamdani from getting elected.

This is why I've always been a fan of these. They are easy for laypeople to understand.

I've never had a Gemini Deep Research report that didn't sound like a load of pseudo-intellectual BS. It always starts with a long grandiose preamble and then sounds way too academic, almost like a caricature of academia.

Also, I want to be able to eat through my whole week's usage at once. What if I was busy all week and want to work on my personal project(s) Saturday or Sunday.

I don't think it ceases to be a crime if you automate it. What if instead of wiping data it set off a shotgun that was pointed at the door?

I don't think the crime of destroying evidence / tampering with evidence depends on what your status in custody is. If the police knock on your front door and you start shredding documents, that's still a crime.

Now, could that get tossed about because they denied him access to a lawyer? Maybe, I don't know about that part.

I find the word "castle" can be a little vague, like with Neuschwanstein Castle, which is really more of a palace. I don't think it's worth battling too much about what is or isn't a castle. I don't think you could come up with one set of castles in the world that satisfies everybody.

I'm not sure the difference between moped and scooter is killing people everyday. I don't think it is. Can you give an example?
Comment · 3 months ago
I'm not disagreeing with the origin of the word, I'm just saying it's expanded and changed.

Have you ever "shipped" something that at no point in its journey was carried on a floating vessel? Do you correct people when they say they're shipping something by ground or air?

For better or worse, probably worse, the definitions of both "moped" and "scooter" vary from person to person or jurisdiction to jurisdiction. "Moped" is often used to describe a light motorcycle.
