You really don’t even need corporate death penalty , just actual corporate hard time in jail

I actually think they’re pretty nice even when I was viewing it on a restricted resolution device like an iPad mini, it’s not apparent at first but he does include a check box that allows you to turn off the stickiness of the animations, it’s a few lines or paragraphs below the first animation in the body

This reply is exactly right about using enterprise drives (hdd), and ideally SAS. Note the power usage of SAS vs sata for an identical drive make/model is very small sometimes 0.5 W to 1.5 W at idle (idle power draw is what matters for spinning HDD’s as underload it doesn’t increase much and idle is what you’ll be at 98% of the time). Also enterprise SSDs are much better than consumer SSD‘s for ZFS, and be aware that when you get above the 4 TB size SSD drives frequently use more power than HDD drives (i’m mainly referring to enterprise non-consumer level drives as that’s all I run for 100s of disks across many zfs systems over past 15 yrs).

Also something people forget for home nas or figuring out cost for a nas, the power draw of the entire system times your electricity price you then have to multiply this times 2x to 4x times if your climate requires cooling air conditioning of any kind

This is absolutely correct, I game on Xbox pretty much every day or every other day, I have been with Xbox since 360 or whatever the first one was called. I am still constantly confused by the naming. There also was another revision to the top of the line Xbox series X and the Xbox series X digital edition. I can’t imagine someone looking at the naming scheme pre-release and saying yes, let’s go with that.

I agree this is a real issue, however hopefully a solution is that creators will upload their videos to both sites (ie YouTube is their primary but also upload to peertube at the same time) which is pretty easy to do and eventually a site like peer tube might reach that critical mass with enough content

Good point, but seriously why are the menu options so frequently changing?? (or is that just more BS to delay you further)

I do a lot of work on very large Wi-Fi networks (i.e. hotel/apartment complexes with 80 to 500+ access points), for a very rough quick test of coverage quality and roaming performance, find a Ping app for your phone that allows you to set a super low interval (i.e. time between pings sent), and ping your gateway router (i.e. 192.168.1.1) and while that is running walk around your home/location. It’s important that the Ping app keeps sending pings even if they drop, i.e. it should just look like a waterfall/constant stream of fast pings that show you red/green pings and ideally a summary at the end. On iOS the app I tell people to use is called “Ping” with a blue icon, I usually have to share the link to the app as there are several with this name (I’m not on my phone currently or I would share the link) there are several ping apps that do offer this fast ping feature.

in the lower end space kind of, however in many respects no they don’t. Ubiquity would be their main competition, but ubiquity equipment is cloud first whereas a strong point of mikrotik has been that you do not need a centralized cloud controller (ie local first). Also in terms of the vast capabilities of mikrotik equipment at its price point, no there is absolutely no real competitor. (Maybe PFsense is the closest competitor with strong feature set)

I use mikrotik equipment extensively (as in hundreds/ thousands of them over the years), while I disagree with a lot of of this, the post is absolutely correct about the ridiculous password on a sticker requirements they introduced a few years ago. The pw text is incredibly small and the way it’s printed (dpi and font) makes it very difficult to differentiate certain characters. Also the way you initially connect to them when they’re new out of the box to then enter this obnoxious password has several issues/challenges. It used to be so easy and convenient to configure brand new mikrotik devices in the past, and now it’s become a task I dread and has even caused us to buy non- mikrotik gear in several cases.

While your point is valid, it makes an even stronger case that it should be easy to uninstall

And what about for users that either can’t find this uninstall script or wouldn’t know how to read it or what the contents mean? While I think you do have a point, we also can’t assume that the uninstall script really would’ve removed all traces.

I think it’s worth mentioning also- 8 GB ram on a Mac is not the same as 8 GB on a windows OS machine, given the poor state of windows as an OS as of the past few years.

This comment is so spot on, it’s also big in military circles, especially over past 15 years. It can even be said that frequent (over) use of acronyms is based in insecurity

On newer laptops, and I’ve seen this specifically on thinkpads) if the power supply you are using is not the correct wattage, the system will throttle down significantly. I started noticing this by looking at windows task manager and noticing the CPU would not scale above 0.8 GHz. Not sure if Chrome responds in the same way, but it’s worth looking into. Fix was easy, just get a proper wattage power supply (i went with oem)

Amazing, perfect app! I use it frequently, and I love the response I get from customers or friends whom I turn onto it (or install it for). I also encourage others to donate to this developer. The sad thing is casual users would not even think of donating as they assume this type of feature should be (properly) built into the OS; so I’ve made sure to donate on behalf of users I’ve turned on to Everything. Great app!
