I really enjoyed cryptonomicon and seveneves most recently. And while yes snow crash was a faster read with just the right amount of detail the stories in both cyrptonomicon and seveneves were absolutely worth the bit of extra detail in between. Could they have been edited shorter? Possibly, but the length of the adventure in part comes from the length of the text and I couldn’t see either being paced faster in hindsight. They were paced well.

Yep… massive waste. A dsp coprocessor hobbled by npu workflows.

These things are a waste of sand.

Could’ve added more gpu or cpu or cache and people would’ve been happier.

Is it all upstream? Is there a newer part coming with upstream support on day 1 like every Intel laptop I’ve had for the last decade+?

I definitely see a future race of who can accelerate open models and their usage locally with realistic desktop hardware.

I fully await my ai in a usb box. The models are plateauing and some clever company is secretly working on this already I’m sure of it.

Imagine baking in a model weight set in ROM with an analog computer doing what otherwise takes way too much power in digital form.

On hardware? Usually hardware issues or quirks are a bigger issue than memory honestly.

Meanwhile nothing really seems to matter anymore but Zephyr which has become almost Linux like in its escape velocity. Every vendor on earth now supports it, and these guys follow the money.

Rust seems to have modest support in some places.

With AI I don’t know language really matters anymore.

This greatly implies online advertising is dead, that the internet as something useful to humans is soon becoming questionable.

Why would anyone be surprised by this outcome? No one should be surprised.

Why go back to a centralized model at all. Guess which project isn’t suffering in this whole debacle of GitHub? The one git was made for of course.

Copilot probably wrote the code confidently and it was never looked at by a human then yolo’d out to meet the pointy haired bosses arbitrarily short timeline to then look good to his boss and so on
