This feels like classic Microsoft. Put some great marketing out there. , claim the victory and deliver the actual product months from now. This puts any other vendor or company in a bad place with investors and the public.

You have to love it. Shrewd as hell.

Doesn’t matter unless they follow through with this and are willing to give up revenue to do security. MSFT always puts this garbage out to safe face, but the organization always reverts to speed and money over anything else.

Untrustworthy. It’s wild how enterprises have overlooked the rampant problems at MSFT for decades.

Not to mention they were out in their Paris availability zone for a month last year.

I can’t help thinking how tests like these could be abused by malicious governments around the world. I think I’ve been watching too much Black Mirror

Im not a mathematician, but does this have potential application in some Neural Networks and such where dangerous connections or isolated information flows could exist?

Bingo. The for profit stuff was probably ok with the board to raise capital. But the closeness with Microsoft probably went too far for the board.

Occams razor. He probably pursued a sale to Microsoft without the boards approval. Hes buddy buddy with Satya. Board basically said no, thats not our mission. Firedd

- Cant be a personal scandal, press release would be worded much more differently

- Board is mostly independent and those independent dont have equity

- They talk about not being candid - this is legalese for “lying”

The only major thing that could warrant something like this is Sam going behind the boards back to make a decision (or make progress on a decision) that is misaligned with the Charter. Thats the only fireable offense that warrants this language.

My bet: Sam initiated some commercial agreement (like a sale) to an entity that would have violated the “open” nature of the company. Likely he pursued a sale to Microsoft without the board knowing.

Honestly if even $1 of public money goes toward research, the work, data, journal, etc should all be public domain. End of story. That should be a basic requirement of taking public funds.

This seems to happen a bit too often tbh on all things Databricks.

What’s going to happen: Trucking companies are simply going to leave CA. They will deliver goods to the border. Then some enterprising company with electric trucks will pick those up at the border and deliver into CA.

Congratulations, you’ve now significantly increased the cost of all the goods going into California. You’ve only moderately reduced the climate burden and likely increased the amount of traffic via container ships that pollute significantly more.
