There are a 100 tasks that a Compaq Presario with a Pentium III could do better than a human. That doesn't mean it is AGI either. LLMs can be useful tools and still not be AGI no matter how much companies want to you to be convinced that they are. Our consciousness and autonomy are what set us apart from every collection of clever computer algorithms we've ever devised. It allowed us to create LLMs in the first place. If LLMs never become at least equal to what we are, they aren't AGI.

AGI doesn't have to be a god, it just has to be somewhat equal to us. It has to have sentience or consciousness just like we do. It has to have autonomy, just like we do. Anything less isn't AGI, but just "weak AI", something far lesser than us, incapable of what our minds do, and nothing at all like what everyone used to call AI before "AI" became a marketing buzzword and people were told that what they thought of as AI was actually AGI.

A single data center can consume over well over 650 MW which is enough electricity for nearly 500,000 homes, which is more homes than the entire population of Miami Florida. Amazon has a 1,037 MW AI data center.

Our government has been working very hard over decades to minimize the impact of the voter. Through gerrymandering, voter suppression, collusion within political parties, etc. and the amount of open corruption going on today shows that our government doesn't think they need to be very concerned about the voters at this point.

I still believe in democracy as a system however. It does need to be protected and maintained though. Jefferson said that "the tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants" and right now the tree is starting to look parched, but I'm still hoping we can bring it back into health with just a little more care and attention.

> the kind of definitions of AGI that people had a couple decades ago

AGI a couple decades ago would be the T-800 from the terminator, Data from star trek, and Johnny 5 from short circuit. What we have now isn't even remotely close. Most people wouldn't even call what he have now AI by the standards of the time.

Don't let the marketing people confuse you as to what AGI is. Star trek is a good example. What we have right now isn't even close to being as good as the ship's computer, LLMs might possibly get to that level though if they get much much smarter and stop pathologically lying. But the ship's computer isn't AGI.

AGI would mean something with sentience or consciousness. Data is AGI. Even Exocomps were AGI. LLMs don't come close, aren't getting any closer, and there's no reason to think they ever will.

I cant believe that the market still thinks LLMs are ever going to result in AGI.

Sure, our actions and inaction regarding climate change threaten the very future of humanity, but on the bright side we're going to learn so much about human history in the process!

I've heard theories that he's an agent working for Russia and while I doubt he's some kind of spy it's difficult to imagine an enemy doing a better job than what's he's accomplished. He's repeatedly leaked classified information (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Trump's_disclosures_of_...). He has physically destroyed the white house. He broke up or crippled the agencies we depend on. He has weakened our military by forcing out top US military officers, depleting U.S. munitions stockpiles, and draining their budgets. He's tanked our economy. He's decreased our freedoms and weakened our very democracy. He's sold off our national parks and public lands. He's isolated us from our allies.

Our enemies should be throwing him parades even if he isn't a foreign agent. He's the gift that just keeps on giving.

Or rather to show they are "willing to do something if you allow us to" as opposed to the party currently in power who has demonstrated that they are willing to screw the American public over to fill their own pockets with cash

If the failure of a private company can bring down the country the government should either break it up or take it over immediately as a national security issue. Too big to fail means too big to exist.

> What did the Trump admin "figure out"?

How to abuse their position to stuff insane amounts of money into their own pockets at the expensive of the American people and get away with it.

I actually like parks and roads and fire departments and social services. I'd happily pay more in taxes for things that are worthwhile. If you don't want your tax money spent on bullshit maybe you should vote for democrats since they're promising not to use your tax money to bail out AI companies.

Anything critical for the nation should be run by the nation. I'd rather have a voice and the ability to vote out the people running that corporation. You don't get to elect CEOs.
