Not to be pedant but that's GMT – UTC doesn't have daylight savings

This is a consequence of WW2, Spain and France moved to CET to align themselves with nazi germany. Portugal and the UK didn't.

Which ways do we have to measure productivity for open source software? Most of the tooling around that still focus on lines of code and cyclomatic complexity

I don't know, a lot of the things we used to take for granted as "hard" just aren't anymore. Writing a parser for a compiler? It used to be an endeavor that took several days, now an LLM will do it in 20 mins.

Same for annoying training jobs, with sufficient data you can probably let an LLM loose on it in autotrain mode and it will come back with a decent classifier.

How does this help? If your container gets compromised it's trivial to exfiltrate the secrets.

No but at least these companies have a full-time security team working on that. It's different when it's you doing this as a hobby in your homelab

I'm not sure that calculus is going to be true for much longer – with the costs of AI falling, it's going to be much easier to throw tokens at the problem even tiny targets that wouldn't have been worth it before. Can you guarantee your VPN is patched and secure at all times?

I've never heard of a colo looking into their customers servers. They're not in the business of monitoring their clients.

I don't understand the coordination problem – if you want to pull out you have to find someone else to buy your share?

> You can get around this by hosting in a 3rd party data center, but now you have the same trust issue again, but with more steps

No this is not true — colos are very hands off.

You don't need to operate a mini AWS to self-host, and I don't know why people on HN want to make it sound like self-hosting if you don't have nation state security

Given the amount of people complaining about crawlers in the past 2 years, I think it's the latter

People do hate on it but MySQL is what I would reach for when needing tons of scale. Its correctness issues about type conversions are super well documented at this point and Innodb is really good at ingesting tons of data. There's also a lot of talent you can hire if you need exotic setup.

They still need to proofread the doc and make sure it applies to their client though?

There are lots of APIs where the order of argument isn't obvious, it doesn't mean they're bad designs

If you've run an ssh server connected to the internet you've gotten used to the hundred of bots probing it every day. How is this AI threat different from humans writing scripts to pop linux servers?
