Senior backend engineer with deep experience in distributed systems, Scala, cloud infrastructure, and developer tooling. Strong background in functional programming, CI/CD modernization, and scalable services. US citizen, open to opportunities in the St. Louis area but prefer remote.I've built web UIs across a few different stacks but prefer backend work. I've served as team lead, tech lead, and mentor. I'm a big proponent of using AI tools for code generation, code review, and automation — anything that makes life easier for developers and end users. I gravitate toward hard problems, especially science-adjacent ones, and toward systems that touch a lot of people. Bonus points for open source.
Coworkers and friends come to me when they're stuck on something gnarly. I write clean code and back it with thorough unit and integration tests, but I stay pragmatic about performance — I've profiled and reworked systems multiple times to cut runtime or memory footprint by 1000x or more.

Senior backend engineer with deep experience in distributed systems, Scala, cloud infrastructure, and developer tooling. Strong background in functional programming, CI/CD modernization, and scalable services. Remote strongly preferred, but will consider opportunities in the St. Louis, MO area. US citizen.I have experience in developing web applications using various UI stacks, but prefer backend development. I have experience as team lead, technical lead, and mentor. I am also a big proponent of leveraging AI tools for code generation/inspection/reasoning, and automation, striving to make life easier for both developers and end-users. I enjoy working on interesting and challenging problems, especially science-related ones, and on systems that impact large numbers of people. Contributing to open source projects would be a huge plus. With my background and skills, I will be an asset to your team.
Coworkers and friends look to me for programming advice and assistance in solving complex problems. I relish challenging projects. I strive to write exceptionally clean code, along with suites of thorough unit and integration tests. I am pragmatic, and bear performance in mind, however. Multiple times I've profiled and analyzed code and design, and identified opportunities to speed up and/or reduce footprint by a factor of 1000x or more.

Veteran software engineer with track record of successful software development using a myriad of technologies. Prefer back-end development using functional programming languages, such as Scala, with emphasis on correctness, robustness, and automation. Relish challenging problems, striving for elegant solutions, yet pragmatic about not overengineering. Am learning Rust, plan to switch to it soon. Remote strongly preferred, but will consider opportunities in the St. Louis, MO area. US citizen.I think that teacher didn't retire for another 20 years, so he may have had kids in the 21st century still learning to use slide rules for his class.
Would be nice to allow user to paste in arbitrary code text, to reflect more typical code they're used to seeing (and get it to display ligatures, if applicable). Or possibly allow user to specify a source file from GitHub/GitLab to display.
Is this open source?

I'm a senior software engineer, experienced in a variety of languages and technology stacks. I'm looking for interesting and rewarding work on a remote-friendly (preferably "remote first") team, especially using Scala. I have experience in developing web applications using various UI stacks, but prefer backend development. I have experience as team lead, technical lead, and mentor. I am also a big proponent of automation, striving to make life easier for both developers and end-users.
