Scale doesn't matter. Control matters. Who controls this controls me and that's not OK at any scale.

The lesson Cook too from that was "don't let it happen" and that's why Apple gave Vision Pro game devs the middle finger saying there would be no precision controllers and then charging $3500-$4500 so that it couldn't possibly be confused with Quest and its gaming focus. Apple wanted Excel and Zoom, not Beat Saber. It got neither, selling less well than Nintendo's 1995 Virtual Boy (no shit.)

It took Cook ~7 years to get Vision Pro out the door. Refreshes? A year or two is usually fine. Entirely new products, not so much. This home stuff has been cooking for about a decade and you can bet HomeView was there in the beginning.

Foldables are somewhere between 10 and 15 percent of Samsung flagship sales. It's foolish to underestimate them because Silicon Valley was all using slabs. The rest of the world isn't so prudish and after sleeping around some many settled on foldables and have been using them for many generations. Moving 10-15% of your high-end sales into an ultra-high-end is a huge win.

It's a fine experience. It's not what Apple is doing though. Apple is doing the half way experience that will leave all unhappy.

How do you think 99.95% of people who do taxes with gen AI are doing it?
Comment · 3 days ago
Nonsense. Nearly every software house in the world has just as many or nearly as many programmers as they did 7 years ago when GPT-2 was "too dangerous to release." You live in a very tiny bubble if you think most businesses are building software without humans. Total horse shit.

Too dangerous to release was 2019. Today it's only very useful for coding and other niche industries. It promised to automate all work and to usher in a utopia. Instead it helps programmers further enshittify Big Tech offerings. That's well short of any promise or expectation set out by boosters, paid and otherwise, for the last 7-ish years. Where's the civilization upending change? Where's the Beef(tm)?

It's called Pro, but it's hardly Pro, more like a MacBook with a good fan.

why tack on the goalpost moving? And geekbench single core isn't the only measure of performance.

There are still older less dumbed down AAA games to play. AAA does not mean "brand new."

If AI helps with the mundane side of real work, great, but outside of mundane-only work, there generally isn't a conveyor belt of random mundane work backfilling the real work's now-fixed-by-AI mundane bits. Any mundane work that's gone unaddressed for long is unaddressed because management doesn't think it'll benefit the business, and if it didn't benefit the business yesterday, clearing out some unrelated mundane work doesn't automatically increase the priority of that unhelpful-to-the-business backlog of mundane work.

Seven years ago (*!!SEVEN!!*) GPT was too dangerous to release and yet everything that AI has touched since then is WORSE now than it was then. "Three months" is entirely nonsense. Seven years. Seven. S. E. V. E. N. Y. E. A. R. S.

If you moved the goal posts any farther, they'd have traveled around the world and would be sitting at your back right now.

If I were to count the number of times you all have said "incredible improvements" here on this site over the last 7 years, what number do you think I'd come up with, and would that change your tune? I'll do it, if I must, to show you all how un-serious is this claim.

>while they earn NOW.

Except they're not. Those shovel sellers weren't losing $2 for every $1 shovel they sold.
