I can't think of many other sites that have been around this long. https://www.bluesnews.com/ for gaming news comes to mind. It's been going since 96.
I have very fond memories of playing on a clan owned server the first few years after TF2 came out. Slowly, I got to know people, and even overcame some pretty severe shyness to talk on a mic during games. My Steam friends list grew and we learned where each other lived around North America, what each other did, who was in a relationship with who. Some people even went so far as to offer couches if someone was visiting their town.
When I last booted up TF2, I was sad to just get put in a random server and couldn't find the old crews stomping ground.
Being older now, I sometimes wish I could find a game where communities like that could form. In hindsight it felt like one of the last breaths of the old internet...
Currently looking at Europe. But immigration is hard anywhere. And there are tax implications I don't understand well.
At this moment, it feels society cares less about me and others who want to use public services than the addicts.
It's been an especially hard couple of months here in Portland. I've traveled around, hoping to find a new place to live. But all the big US cities with good transit suffer the same issues. At best, I wish I could move to another country I could live in and feel I had a sense of agency, if anyone would have me. But at this point I'm feeling like it's time to give up.
His books don't resonate with a good number of friends, and I can understand why. But for me it's a strange mix of dark and comforting, with words that make my neurons dance like they're listening to jazz.
I live in Portland and we have the same issue all over the city. They are much louder and more frequent than gas power leaf blowers. There are supposedly laws against them, but they are not enforced.
