A completely different direction is to remove the fair use allowance for training on copyrighted information (unless you e.g. open source your weights).

I personally have no problem per se with AI rendering certain tasks or even jobs economically redundant (although I am sceptical about many of the grander claims). What I do find tough to take is that the benefits will accrue to companies who have effectively stolen (and continue to steal) the intellectual output of everyone based on some bullshit fair use ruling for AI training. Hopefully the latter will get walked back and mechanisms and systems will be out in place to more fairly reward human intelligence.

Which ablated model do you recommend for this?

No thanks. I have no interest in peer reviewing anything for free if it's going to be handed over to closed source AI companies. And before some facile comment about Elsevier comes along, no I don't review for them either and it's clearly not the same.

You mean in relation to AI? Well I think we also need to do something in relation to GPL code for example.

We need to create a new scientific regime in the spirit of open source where scientific papers are not permitted to be used to train closed models. If you want to use the output of human ingenuity, you need to give something back.

We need to design an AIGPL - you can only use the collective expertise that created our code to train a model if the model, its training data and potentially its output are also available via AIGPL.

Wow, thanks for the link. How prescient was that writer - even the parts about using GPUs weren't too far off the mark! A depressing vision of where we're headed if something isn't done about it.

Oh I loved Stratego. Got it as a present from my (now dead) granddad. Some great memories of playing it with him and my brother.

My mental model is to treat AI agents running on your system as a form of malware that is running in a honeypot you control. You don't want to just get rid of it as you want to observe its behaviour (in the case of malware) or hopefully do something useful (AI). But you certainly shouldn't assume it won't do anything bad to your system.
