Yup! Can't solve an inherent property. It's like unlearning to be bound by gravity to take flight.

I think the focus is on moral void, not on AI.

I wonder what would it be like, an LLM trained mostly on Russian classical literature. A depressed nihilist AI.

The recruiter person should sometimes dramatically proclaim "Off with your head!" to signify a head hunting success (to the poachee).

Reject modernity, embrace tradition.

Android user here, switched from iOS (not because of ads, a different gripe).

Not going to lie, it's a holistically bad experience, very similar to iOS in this regard. But Android doesn't show ads. The closest thing would be the Google Photos pestering to back up to cloud, things like that. It's per app, and usually there are better apps to replace the offending ones. (And vendor garbage can even be uninstalled, although it's very deliberately inconvenient to do.)

Bonus points for having Brave browser with built-in adblock, for the free YouTube Premium-ish ad-free experience.

We don't have to have the same exact moral systems of course, but this is curious: if we (collectively!) support the thing, why not claim it's good?

Can't talk for all of HN, but I for one hereby praise most/all piracy websites. Anna's Archive is great, and Rutracker is also great.

It's not a competition, and being a moral saint isn't a good KPI; being a net positive for society is.

I guess the hopeful one, "Google always kills its products", suggesting that the bad product in this thread is also doomed. I hold this same hope, almost entirely unironically, about so many things.

This quote is so egregiously stupid, I'm instantly disinterested in this product now. No reason to assume the rest isn't the same applied cretinism as the quoted sentence.

True, but the current state of advertising is, charitably, kinda goofy.

I'm not surprised the iteration we're seeing now is perceived as failing: on the few remaining screens where ads are still present for me, they're between highly irrelevant to flat out repulsive. There are a few brands I will never touch with a long stick, purely as a result of their disturbing, disgusting ads -- again, charitably, a negative-sum game.

It is amusing we pass laws to fix bad UX. But if it works, can't argue with it. I would like a law against unwanted popovers now please.

That, and filing false claims should be incredibly punishable, like beyond all proportion.

One disgusting CEO landing behind the bars over frivolous DMCA takedown would improve things dramatically, like for humanity (or a hefty chunk thereof that's browsing the web, anyway).

OK yeah I didn't know they stopped allowing to root. Normal levels of DRM then, my mistake, you're right.

Neat, thanks for this correction! Interesting, an entire new programming language.

It's Android but without Google's services, there's an alternative app store.

The irony of Chinese vendors providing a breath of fresh low-DRM air.

You will not. Have a nice day though! Now with more time to spend on positive things. :)
