Mozilla Foundation employee here! You probably donated through https://donate.mozilla.org, so I thank you earnestly for that! With that donation you're supporting our work to protect the health of the internet, fueling the movement to keep the web decentralized, open and free. Some of the projects we've worked on include http://privacynotincluded.org/ and our advocacy campaigns like https://advocacy.mozilla.org/en-US/net-neutrality. We also sponsor a whole host of fellows doing deeper dives on things like the dangers of Aadhaar in India and Tech Policy in Washington D.C. (https://foundation.mozilla.org/opportunity/2017-tech-policy-...). You can learn more at https://foundation.mozilla.org/about/

The general idea is that 90% of people I tell "I work for Mozilla" respond with "Oh, you work on Firefox?" but we're about so much more than that. My understanding of the motives behind this change is that having better branding that explains we're focused on the internet in general will hopefully expand our reach and recognition outside the tech bubble.

This is how my Subaru behaves, and it feels right. The only false positive stopping I've encountered is someone coming from the opposite direction turning left across my path. And even then, it only happens when they're close enough that i they weren't moving, it would be a problem.

I only started working here a few months ago so I'm still forming my thoughts, but I definitely agree with the general notion that there needs to be some better external visibility/clarity of what we're doing. I can tell you the people here are the most passionate I've met about what they're doing and the organization's mission as a whole, which excites me to log on for work every day in a way that other jobs haven't. As for negative reactions online, well, it's the internet and that's bound to happen. It's only reasonable to expend a certain amount of energy correcting people vs focusing on the work that matters.
