Then they speed, tailgate, scroll their phone, etc., as if they weren't a menace to everyone around them.

Yes! Unless you truly believe mute people lack agency and the ability to communicate their feelings and wants as well as the rest of us, but this would be a sad position to take. I hope you don't really feel that way.

The infants and pets analogy is silly. Are you suggesting that if someone leaves their unattended infant or pet on the public sidewalk, the rest of are simply to skirt and ignore it? Since we can't be sure of the robot's intentions (it's behaving erratically, has it been hacked?), and the owner is nowhere to be found, disabling it seems like the safest thing for everyone, especially if there's automotive traffic nearby and it might wander off-course and cause a crash.

If you truly believe that by giving free bags to the burrito robot, the law compels me to give them to everybody, then I'll give you one gladly, for that is a sweet fantasy.

I understand the point you're trying to make, but I'm a lion tamer and I have plenty of bags to give away.

Nice try, but the reality is this was just somebody's burrito. And if it were my burrito, I wouldn't be the least bit mad.

Now that the cops have helped her get the message out, by arresting her, would a better approach be to go up to the robot, say "Hi, I'm giving these out for free today, if you don't want one, let me know," put a bag over the camera pod, and leave? It seems like her time is too valuable to waste actually blocking the robot.

You're absolutely right! I was excited about this book, having heard Ms. Jacobsen discuss it on a podcast. She was a great guest, and her book is well researched, for sure. Unfortunately, I found the prose unbearable and gave up half-way through. To me, it reeks of LLM. If you can somehow set that aside, you might enjoy it.

I wouldn't let that concern me at all. Large sections of the Appalachian Trail (including all of PA) are extremely rocky. It's hell on shoes. Having said that, I much prefer my Nike trail shoes to the Speedgoats I had.

U.S. chains like IHOP and Denny's beat the mom-and-pop immigrant restaurants by decades (and they are truly terrible). I wouldn't be surprised if they got the idea from even lower quality chains like McDonald's, but I'm not old enough to know.

If you DM your provider through their health portal it's likely they'll write an order without requiring an office visit.

As opposed to a moisture farmer, presumably: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aran_Islands#History

If you're never seen Man of Aran, you're in for a treat! Far more thought provoking than the fluff Lucas made, but by which I always assumed his fictional homestead on Tatooine was inspired.

It's not that complicated. When you buckle your unibody, you'll understand.

Obviously, but the question I was responding to was, "Why buy a sleek phone made of premium materials just to bury it in the cheapest, ugliest, chunkiest plastic case you can find?"

In an ICE pickup, maybe, but assuming the Slate has an EV weight distribution advantage, RWD is probably better. To each their own, but I much prefer my driven wheels not to be my turning wheels.

That said, lack of 4WD is really a bummer.
