While I agree that people _want_ art by humans, they mostly buy the cheapest possible thing that fits their taste and intention. Take furniture as an example of art component pushed to the premium segment

Not trying to argue on the downsides of capitalism, but what comes to mind is the Endicott Johnson Corporation. They paid decent wages to their workers during 1950s, but got overcompeted by Nike partly because they were unwilling to lower their wages to stay in business

I’ve seen people here learn programming languages by building a compiler, but my go-to project is usually the ICFP 2006 contest. It has a well defined scope, it is entertaining, gets you into the advanced concepts pretty fast as you debug and optimize performance.

I’m pretty sure that same discourse was seen every mass production epoch, from textiles to electronics. Yet here we are, hand-crafted high quality things are rare and expensive.

Fundamentally, the code can be understood by humans, but the volume of the generated code outpaces human capacity to understand it.

If you like this kind of stuff, check out sci-fi books by Peter Watts, at least read the epilogue of the Blindsight book which mentions saccades and other ways the brain can be tricked.

What’s interesting about that is that brain doesn’t actually give you much access to the sensor information directly, but gives an interpretation instead. There is a thing called Saccadic Suppression that blocks visual data processing for 50ms when eyes are moving, and the brain just backfills that missing data from the “next frame”.
