> Same with all the history I learned in middle school.

This explains Trump.

With HDDs, it's also mechanical wear and increased chance of a failure. SSDs are not fully immune to increased load either.

Generally, it's possible to have data which is not corrupted but which is logically inconsistent (incorrect).

Imagine that a directory ZAP has an entry that points to a bogus object ID. That would be an example. The ZAP block is intact but its content is inconsistent.

Such things can only happen through a logical bug in ZFS itself, not through some external force. But bugs do happen.

If your search through OpenZFS bugs you will find multiple instances. Things like leaking objects or space, etc. That's why zdb now has support for some consistency checking (bit not for repairs).

Even RDIMM / LRDIMM prices have recently started going up. And I thought that those would be safe, because neither "big AI" nor regular consumers need them.

Used RDIMM / LRDIMM prices have also started going up, quickly.

I remember it as borsch with nettle. Nettle was one of the first green things in the spring, just after snow melted. Nettle borsch was cooked just like the regular one but with nettle instead of cabbage.

In practice, it's not as easy as it may sound.

Yeah, in a place where they live. Whatever it happens to be (and doesn't have to stay the same).

I agree that it's most stupid and most annoying kind of localizing. I search for some specific product (or other information), get a link to an English version of the page (and perhaps the only one). But when I follow the link I get redirected to my language version of the site, most often its portal page. Sometimes because the language specific site does not have a page for the thing I searched, but most often because the site is lazy. And then I have to search again but using the site tools instead of my search engine of choice.

Protecting children from real or perceived threats, temptations, evil things, etc was much easier in the physical world. In the virtual world it's much harder to put up fences.

ZFS is part of the OS on FreeBSD. Integrated more tightly in every respect.

That was back then when people believed in their country, in republic and democracy...

> If you own a house you are part of a Ponzi scheme in most developed nations.

Not unless you explicitly choose to. If you own a house to have a roof above you, to have a comfortable and safe place for you and your family, if you love and care about that place, then that's what you are getting out of the house. Its monetary value changes are "just" a side story.

But if you buy a house purely as an investment, then yeah.

100 cable "faults", but only 2/3-rd are from ships. And, then, how many of those have been in the Baltic Sea in prior years? 66 incidents per year sounds like a lot, but there are so many cables and shipping lanes all over the world.

Rad idea: limit H-1B to product companies, exclude consulting / body-shop companies.
