Get ready for the future. In a post-scarcity economy, the core human drive of competition reduces to declaring allegiance to a 'team' and publicly denouncing 'out-groups' (using high-stakes labels). It becomes the primary way to compete for social status, prestige, and influence within a community. Allegiance is the new capital.

Following Michael Levin’s work, one could argue that small collections of skin cells are conscious. AI tech has a long way to go until it’s autonomous and self-motivated.

I worked as a contractor for USAID. A lot of the people that worked there were spies. They shut it down because they weren't 'their' spies. Some people voted in the president to dismantle the deep state, and he did, but he just replaced them with the deeper state who probably eat children.

Models are finally good enough that I'm confident that I can repeatably build pretty much any software reliably in less than 2% of the time that I could before 2022. I wouldn't have made that claim 6 months ago.

Even quantized local models like Qwen3.8 are good enough to handle a lot of drudgery. For example, I hooked my wife's computer up to a local model, and now she finally has a clean desktop. She just drops spreadsheets or powerpoints or whatever on her desktop and automation takes care of everything.

The caveat is that I developed software for 30 years, so I understand most of what it produces and can guide it to make fewer mistakes and fix what it can't do. The biggest challenge has been keeping my requirements focused - it's very easy to gold plate everything and prematurely optimize.

The biggest question I ask myself is why am I even still doing this. The smart people are probably already trying to figure out how to pipe raw matter and energy to their homes to build replicators.

The future is already here, it's just not evenly distributed.

The first laundromat opened shortly afterward in 1934. For most, it was cheaper to haul your clothes there and back.

Politicians didn’t even do anything about Epstein. I’m pretty sure they’re all compromised.

Not a very helpful comment for someone not in the know. I couldn't find anything political on their landing page.

I don’t know anything about astrology. But, just as a curiousity, I plugged the birth times and lat lons of my wife and I into a frontier model and asked it to generate our charts and personality profiles. Then, created 3 more from random inputs. 5 people who know us well (including us) independently guessed correctly. I’m sure there was information leakage. If anything, it was a fun game. But kind of eerie.

Westerner isn’t an income class. For instance, I grew up in appalachia and also didn’t have food, clean water, heat, electricity, health care, clothing, or plumbing. But, I did have free speech rights, access to libraries, and friendships with other poor creative kids like me.
