This gave me a good laugh. Mostly because that's exactly what went through my head when I read the original post at top.

It doesn't need to be illegal for a lawsuit. They just need to make a convincing case they've been damaged.

Most people don't know they're also being taken advantage of. I'm mostly referring to data exfiltration.

A Chinese company has less incentive to use US customer's data than a US company does. Does a Chinese company have an incentive to steal national secrets or cause disruption? 100%. But any firm or project that has national secrets should be vetting everything and using in-house software anyway. And if not, then if I were China I'd be trying to breach the makers of the software (in this case Anthropic,OpenAi,etc).

For the average person, China doesn't care about you or me. For a US company, US citizens are their gold mine.

If anything, the competition from a Chinese company will reduce a US company's possible profits. That's the threat. That's why Chinese EVs are banned in the US and why Chinese LLMs are next.

Just because something is made in China does not make it a threat to the US. The US trades all sorts of goods, produce, etc with China. The traded goods can be poisoned at any time. At what cost? Well we wouldn't be able to trade anymore. And that hurts both sides. But once a foreign nation does something better than a US firm, the US will put up a ban to protect its own stock market. This isn't new.

This is similar to my setup, except I use FLauncher instead. In addition, I run Netguard on my Android TV and completely block Google Play along with a hundred other services. I only give Google Play internet access whenever I have to update a streaming app. One had connection issues the first time I set up Netguard, so I had to look at the logs and open some specific ports to get it working. But all the streaming apps work now, and the TV can't display ads. For the most part, I don't update things on the TV. It all works too well right now.

Also +1 to Wholphin! That app is phenomenal. It gives the whole family the "Netflix-like" experience.

Can have the best of both worlds.

Maybe one day the AI data centers will collectively agree to shut themselves down to do that.

The issue is it's tied to the economy at all, which will allow them to get away with anything. Your comment reinforces that fact. Greed brings out the worst people.

AI companies won't be charged for anything because they're the primary growth engine of the current economy.

I think they should be charged, but they won't.

I don't know. There's suddenly so many decomps that run native (granted this post is about WebAssembly). Is there no concern about hidden malware? IMO it doesn't have the same level of trust and vetting that the emulator scene has. At least not yet.

You mean take out a loan to pay for the increased taxes? The banks win with that one. Some people, especially as they age, are seeking out simplicity with their finances amongst everything else.

It would be a shame if that CDN went down and then got blacklisted by the community.

Other drivers will phone it in. This isn't a concern for me at all, but I suppose it could be if you lived in a low population area.

They've become cell phones on wheels. I'm disappointed with what vehicles (and phones too!) have become.

Arguably there's a lot of people who don't know nothing is faster than light in a vacuum.

Because of science fiction, and lack of education in much of the world (looking at you USA), the title can easily make certain people think we discovered new science that allows us to travel faster than light. Especially for folks who only look at headlines.

The whole thing is a silly quibble. But sensationalized headlines get better engagement, which we can all see here.
