It is actually still supported directly Finder on macOS. Or, even better, just putting Rockbox on them and copying files over directly, and that’s well supported in Linux.

Pricing on the used market is maybe a bit high compared to some of the other options out there but the hardware still feels great and there’s massive aftermarket support so there are still benefits to an iPod.

Oh gotcha, I didn’t realize the distinction there! Very interesting, that’s a new rabbit hole to dive down.

For CPUs, they are still licensing ARMs cores, of course with their own modifications, and they bought Intel’s modem businesses, which likely gave them the patents they needed. GPUs I can’t speak to on this though.

They’ve announced a partnership with Motorola to have it installed on some of their phones in the future, so not just Pixels for long!

Oh man, my first custom build had a Phenom II 955 BE. Overclocked beautifully, I loved that system. Got it in a barebones kit from good old TigerDirect, RIP

On the contrary, I've had terrible luck with Asus laptops. Most of my issues have been with their gaming laptops but I have had at least one Zenbook die on me as well. But I've had four other gaming laptops, from multiple different market segments.

Desktop hardware I've had better luck with, but between my own experience and the multitude of reports online about warranty issues people have faced with other products, I can't in good faith recommend them to people.
