Get over it already.

X11 is here to stay, Wayland will never be ready. You can curse others as much as you want, people who need to do work will use X.

>It's also worth noting that other property rights have no time limit.

This is wrong.

In the UK, property rights are mostly leasehold, just as they are in Singapore for HDB flats.

>capitalism is the dominant business engine in the country,

The government _mandates_ that certain services be used. In which world does this rhyme with "capitalism"?

>It's like the first rule you learn when you go into corporate communications is to never admit you did anything wrong or project anything other than confidence and correctness.

It's the first rule you learn after joining basically any organisation larger than 5 people.

People on HN who are surprised are seemingly self-employed prodigies who dropped out of middle school.

>Governments shouldn’t be allowed to correct mistakes?

Suppose you married a partner and had a baby together. When the baby is 2 y.o. you find out that you don't love neither the baby nor the partner.

Should you be allowed to correct your mistake by killing the baby?

Not all mistakes can be corrected.

>Obtaining citizenship shouldn't give you the right to impose your foreign culture and habits that are alien to the country which allowed you to stay in

This is plain wrong. Obtaining citizenship literally means "our system decided that you assimilated enough". If that's not the case -- don't grant it.

Otherwise you're making citizenship useless as a concept.

>What about making you social media desktop-optimized?

It's not me who is making the market, it's the people who "create content": write posts, share music, take photos.

They are not doing that any more, because smartphones are luring their attention away.

Gatekeeping works when there are no other options.

>Do you remember when the internet was human? When a message from a stranger on another continent felt like magic?

I remember the time when the only people on the internet were people who could pay for an expensive toy (a computer) with a keyboard, which they used in the evenings after their education-intensive jobs. Ah, and also naive kids of the same people.

This age is not coming back, because the reason it disappeared is smartphones.
