You’re making a should argument instead of a can argument.

Get and stay engaged in elections to prevent this. Norms and laws are only as powerful as the people in power.

I don’t want any of this to slide. I weep for the institutions that were destroyed, the faith in those institutions and our standing on the global stage. The apathy of voters, failures of Biden to step aside or the DNC to oust him in a timely manner and the alienation of the working class by the party that cares for them are all incredible failures. I dedicated thousands and thousands of dollars to attempt to stop DJTs reelection. “Elections have consequences” isn’t defeatest-it is a call to arms that people need to engage more in the election process.

elections have consequences. We have a representative democracy and administrative employees serve at the pleasure of the head of the administration. "shoulds" and "musts" only go as far as the political will to enforce them. The overwhelming majority of the electorate seems to care about how expensive their personal lifestyle is with various takes on individual liberty vs enforced morality used as wedge issues (neither party is consistently on one side or the other of this balance, fwiw.)

as an institutionalist myself, I agree with you that this is terrible governance.

Where can I learn more about metal SLS that costs less than 50k USD?

It has never been a better time to be able to make parts at home in USA than right now. A formlabs form 4 is cheaper than a Bridgeport, there is a glut of desktop CNC mills (aluminum routers) under ~5k, in wood the shaper origin and sienci altmill are pretty strong as is the avidcnc router family which happens to use domestically sourced extrusion from 8020…

Frankly, I am confused by much of what in reading here

while ClickHouse can scale down to compete with duckdb, I dont believe (but happy to be corrected) that duckdb can scale up like ClickHouse can.

most people dont have that scale problems, but when you do...

I can see their logic - instead of breaking people's builds, they are being the nice guys and letting you pay them back later. BUT, any time you break convention, you've dipped into your trust budget (even if you communicate it way more clearly than was apparently done here.)

Same price for regular and cheaper fast mode. Happy for these incremental improvements.
