Business requirements will have to change. All your competitors are under the same pressure with the same shitty set of options, after all.

> Having mutability not be a property of the data, but of the function arguments [...]

I don't know if you were aware of this, but Rust has that too. (Actually it's a property of any binding, not just function parameters)

> But i gotta say, living off grid is fundamentally solipsist. Abandoning society rather than attempting to live well within society will always be a dead end.

I strongly disagree; the way I see it is people like this are trying something different and their ideas could in the long run turn out to be better than the ideas that present day society is exploring.

And if God forbid, society experiences some kind of collapse, the skills and knowledge of these people will be invaluable for recovery.

> And to clarify, this means encrypt it before it gets to the VPS. Just having full-disk encryption is not enough because cloud providers can dump RAM. There are tools that easily extract encryption keys from RAM.

True, but at the very least, you won't have to worry about discarded SSDs having your data in plaintext.

If you carefully re-read what GP wrote, you'll see there's no reference to Earth's orbit or 1 AU in there. GP wrote about the solar wind scattering cosmic rays when it reached some point in its outward travel.
